would appreciate your other thoughts on the differences paradigm also what do you think to the one I linked, is that mileage too much?
It's pretty much as I said before. Whilst they have nice shove because of the turbo, they aren't particularly fast (my remapped Leon Cupra R was faster in a straight line... and round Donington), and due to the high levels of mechanical grip, you never feel on-edge or "alive". They literally hold the road (for longer than most people have the bravery to hold) on the public highway, and as a result they feel rather placid unless you are doing some pretty dangerous speeds. Add in the fact that you are sat in a plastic fantastic interior, with some pretty hard seating (that's uncomfortable on longer journeys in comparison to the E36/E46 sport seats), and the insatiable droning from the exhaust at motorway speeds, I've never really enjoyed being in one except for on a track.
As for the one you linked to, I don't really know Imprezas and their bug-bears, but at that mileage, unless it's been extensively rebuilt, it's going to need a complete suspension overhaul, and if it's not gone already, a turbo is likely on the horizon (my 330d's turbo lasted 166,000 for example, and I've known many 1.8T turbo's needing replacement before 150,000 miles).
If you find the E46 that boring, either take it on a car-limits type day to learn how to get the most of it (you might be bottling it far before the limits of the car), or buy a car that feels more alive at legal speeds. The MX5 is brilliant at this, and a turbo/supercharged one is pretty much the perfect blend of poise and power.
Drive a Scooby - great fun. So much grip!
That's EXACTLY what makes them NOT fun on the road.
