£350 for Beginners DSLR?

Ok Ok,

Excitement has been bursting out of me, so I must tell all, that I've bought a D80, and a 18-135mm lens aswell :D

Cool beans! I hope you'll enjoy it :)
With that focal length, you're pretty much well covered for a little walk about kit. Main thing is, take pictures, explore around indoors and outdoors then see what type of focal length you use most - then be prepared and start saving for your next lens... (if you are craving for sharper images)

Get the Adobe Lightroom trial. It's best for post-processing your pictures (and you will generally want to PP).
Also shoot RAW, although the file size is bigger you can play with the image much more than with JPEG.

Thanks for the reply's.

I will report back when everything is delivered, in the end my kit has come to £593 , but thats D80, 8GBs worth of Mem Cards, beginners books, 2 batteries, 1 battery grip, 50mm lens, 18-135mm lens.. etc.

WOHOOO,

It came today, a day earlier than I expected.

Woah, I've been playing for ages with it. I've taken 80 odd pics, even though the cameras used, its only taken 6000 shots which I don't think it much tbh. My new lens comes tomorrow, which should be awesome!

Will upload pics later, when Vista decides to let my camera be recognised :(..

-Matt

EDIT:- I'm loving the D80 so far :)

there is a firmware update for the D80, so vista recognises it.

I use Nikons Transfer software for getting pics of my D80. Lets you do all sorts regards renaming and destination folders, plus it's got an option to set the D80's clock to the same as your pc every time you connect to download.

If your going to shoot RAW, then get a copy of CaptureNX, its the best option for processing NEF's from the D80, since it reads all the available info stored in the NEF. Interface is a bit funny, but provides the best way of processing NEF files.

Thanks, thats very helpful :)

hehe congrats on getting into the world of slr good luck and make sure you choose your lenses wisely!

Will do thanks :)

Just noticed theres some dust on the mirror? Problem?

-Matt

It's not going to show up on any images or anything, but if it's annoying you through the viewfinder then you can use a blower to blow it off. Don't, whatever you do, touch the mirror—the silver is very delicate, and you can also fairly easily knock it out of alignment.

My Vista PC won't lemme upload my pictures off of the camera. I have updated the firmware, and it still says I need to install a driver :(. Don't suppose someone could help? I tried downloading PictureProject but it failed during installation.

I hate vista

Thanks,

Matt

My Canon had real issue with allowing me to upload RAW files, so I bite the bullet and got myself a card reader (under 10quid these days) - works a wonder, stress free and faster~ :)

I think I'm just gonna go back to XP tbh.. I hate Vista..

Anywho...

Tried Nikon Transfer?
I use that under Vista64 and it works fine for getting pics of the camera.

Firmware should be 1.10 for both A and B

Hey Fellas,

Got XP back :D

Also I have uploaded images that I have taken on the D80 and had a look at them on the PC. Some of them are good, however not good enough to be posted :p

Lens hasn't turned up yet because the seller had an unfortunate fall braking their ankle etc, so all being well the lens has been gauranteed to be here tomorrow.

I'll report back soon, with some new pics and hopefully a new lens :D
