Hi All,

I'm just looking to upgrade my rig after several years of faithful service my E8400 just isn't cutting the mustard any more.

I'm going to keep my case, monitor, mouse, keyboard, 6950, Hard Disks, and 750w power supply.

So what I'm looking for is CPU, Motherboard, Memory and CPU Cooler.

So for the princely sum of £350 what would be best. Also would it be noticeable if I went for a cheaper AMD build and added a second 128GB M4 which cold then be raised to give me a nice 256GB drive?

Come up with the spec below, but Haswell is just around the corner which Intels new range of cpu's. If can hold on then it might be worth it.

With spec below you need check your case dimensions can take the cooler and motherboard.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £175.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £89.99
1 x Kingston HyperX Genesis Blue 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9D3K2/8GX) £39.95
1 x Alpenföhn Matterhorn Pure Edition CPU Cooler (Socket 775 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / FM1 / FM2) £29.99
Total : £347.32 (includes shipping : £9.50).

The Matterhorn Pure is 158/159mm tall, do you think it will fit?

If it does, then RJC spec is exactly the same as I was going to post.

Thanks everyone, missed the today only deal on the memory but will just wait for Overclockers to get to 20.000 likes and drop that 5% off code in there.

You could as the i7 2700K isn't to be sniffed at but the mobo isn't great by todays standards (B grade it goes for £30). I could suggest this to rival that.....

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-2700K 3.50GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £224.99
1 x Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-16000C9 2000MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A2000C9) £53.99
1 x **B Grade** Gigabyte Z68A-D3H-GEN3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 (MB-380-GI) £52.00
1 x Thermalright Macho 120 CPU Cooler (Socket 775 / 1150 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / 2011 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / FM1 / FM2) £29.99
Total : £360.96 (includes shipping : FREE).

Granted it's B grade but this mobo can be updated to UEFI (that D3 can't) to modernise it. The Gen3 also supports SLi/Xfire (even the Z77-D3H is only a single GPU mobo) seeing as he has a 750W PSU. The RAM is also faster and the cooler is decent and should fit any case.

Although in truth with Haswell being so close to landing it really does make sense to wait and see what's what next month to be honest.

Again I don't want to sound like an uber douche but the mobo isn't brilliant. The LX is actually better than the LX2 (I know it makes no sense). RJCs spec is superior with the Z77-D3H. No need to pay for it to be overclocked, I can provide a very good video tut to overclocking on the 1155 socket if the OP wants it

If I do a spec to compete with that bundle.....

This mobo is again Xfire/SLi capable, faster RAM kit too. It works out cheaper and do the OC manually.

Keep with the original plan. It's a good plan.

I'd wait for Haswell myself. Although if he has a good 750W PSU getting a SLI/Xfire capable mobo like the Z77X-D3H isn't such a bad idea. 750W is OTT for the Z77-D3H.

I have nothing against RJCs spec but with that RAM no longer on offer and 1600Mhz kits at around £50. Think I'd rather cough up the extra few quid for the faster RAM kit seeing as they have a limited lifetime warranty and all.

I look forward to seeing what he settles on in the end :)
