[35mm 1.4] Shot a gig for the first time, a real test for camera and a learning experience for me.

It's something I'm constantly playing with. I much prefer black and white at the moment, but my main frustration is getting a clean shot in the last 3 gigs so I can actually apply it the way I want.

It's fun though :D

That reminds me, I got my mitts on some B&W presets for lightroom last night. I shall have a play later :D

Post samples if you come up with anything juicy :)

As for my inspiration for BW in settings such as this, here's an example of what I try to work by:

Seen on the Magnum link here: http://www.magnumphotos.com/C.aspx?VP3=CMS3&VF=MAXO31_3&VBID=2K1HZOC4FMBWE&IID=2K1HRG77OFVP&PN=11

It's not sharp, but then again it's not supposed to be as that's not the focus point (no pun intended!).

I think the colour cast give sit the airbrushed look, at least on my screen anyway! That is some heavy smoke either way :P

Ta, I searched on their site for the exact name of the product and the poopy search engine they have renames searches! Also I've had another play, but was starting to get irritated so I'll leave it until tomorrow night now and have a proper go. Apparently this is a Kodak film preset. Well, was until I tinkered :p

It's getting nearer how I want it. I'm after a nice grainy 70s gig look, and this is still a bit too clean for my liking.

To me? I used manual exposure, trial a few shots first to see what looks good on the display and then work from there in manual.

I use the Technicolor Cinestyle picture profile (mainly for video but it helps for photos, I'll explain).

I've started using the profile as you get a good balance of extended dynamic range on the LCD when previewing photos since even when shooting RAW the camera loads the jpeg preview which has the profile attached. This gives me an idea of what an image will look like after I've processed it as far as highlight detail and shadow detail goes when brought back if they are out by a stop or two.

Before cinestyle I was using the Faithful profile which was giving similar results but not as wide dynamic range.
