It's more likely that the failure rate is not that high, despite what you read on forums (most of which are fake) and its failure rate is in line with most other products.

Yeah because the internet is full of xbox bashers and PS lovers these days.

I used to think that, but now I genuinely think there is a fundamental issue with either the components or how they are assembled/soldered.

I would be very surprised if the failure rate was in-line with other electronics products.

 if this is true..
Not really surprising. I'd be more surprised it the Elite was more reliable than the others because then it would mean that MS had acknowledged and rectified the faults.

If they surfed the web then they would learn that a lot of people seem to have solved the problem by putting a towel round it which has made the solder melt or whatever. This suggests that at least some of the problems are due to manufacturing rather than design flaws.
Yes, but even that is hit and miss. A couple of people have tried it from here with no luck.

So you think it's fake?

So far I have seen several bad photoshop jobs and this one video where a disk doesnt play, but you dont see if its a borked disk or if it will play in another 360.

We are all so convinced that the 360 is an unrelaible beast that it wouldnt take much convincing from people that the Elite is the same.
Infact if I worked for sonys marketing I would get myself an elite and knock a few of these vids out myself.
Sticky back plastic and some red leds, jobs a gooden. :p

Oh I think he means the video in the OP? I haven't watched it so can't comment.

I'd really hope that with a ew release like the Elite that MS would iron out these reliability issues, it's just going to hurt them even more if the same problems persist.

 what kind of low melting point solder must they be using to do that :o

I would have thought it due to things expanding because of the extra heat, rather than actually melting.

The towel fix is generally only temporary.

yeah that was my take on it. that's normally because of poor joints which is the most likely cause, if it isnt the cpu or gpu itself. That could be down to using zero-lead solder, which is generally a lot harder to work with than a leaded solder - the quality of the joints are poorer. At least that was the case 2-3 years ago when i was last working in the industry lol.

To be honest though, it shouldn't be causing them a problem
