can u not fit a small flat headed screw driver under there to prise it out so you can pull it out enough to get the disk out?

I'll give it a try. (Well, on monday)

I'll take the faceplate off aswell to avoid marking it.

There was a video on youtube that shows you how to fix the 3 red light problem. IIRC it involves heating the mobo slowly with a heat gun, sounds strange but it worked. Quite a few people had replied saying it fixed their problem too so might be worth a shot if all else fails.

As for opening the DVD tray, IIRC its a standard PC drive so there is usually a manual release. Look for a small hole, then use a pin. You might need to remove the facia to see it though.

Yeah that really would be last resort. Thanks for the advice about the drive. :)

I emailed MS last night but got a generic email referring me to a help page for the 3 red lights. I then rang them but was on hold for half an hour so I hung up.

Great.

i just read this, there are so many people with this 3 redlight problem. i just hope my newly bought 360 never has this problem

Thing is it wont even turn on, so I can't run initial setup.

Overall I think just shows that even If your 360 has been running for months and months It can just go at anytime.

I'd put money on it that quite a few more people on here with launch consoles will be seeing the 3 red lights.

Yeah I've had mine since Feburary and it worked fine right up until this week.

And to make things worse i think UPS have managed to lose it.

Wow so the americans only get 3 months of warranty?

harsh, especially as you get to pay 130$ to microsoft if you want them to fix your machine

Sorry to hear that mate, we were both the most sceptical over it's alledged lower than average failure rate and we have both been hit. I actually don't know many people who havent had atleast one replacement. Most on my friends list have and of my real life friends only one hasnt replaced his but he knows it's on its way out.

Well thats a turn up for the books, i decided to try it without the hard drive, and it worked, so ive just put the hard drive back on, and its working, jesus what a machine, noe gona have to phone back and tell them to put my add back in lol.

Its in for tomorrow so i hope to god if someone comes to see it still bloody works, ill be glad to get rid of this thing now.

These things are atroicous, why M$ left it till 10 months down the line to admit they were borked i don't know. :(

Ok guys need some advice.

My machine was bought from Virgin in Colchester on launch along with 3 games ( so CC statement shows ~ £450) and atm its locked up once on boot and 3 times during game - at first i thought it was Lego being gay - but it just did it on TDU so im very nervous now.

Thing is i dont live in Colchester now ive finished uni - there is a Virgin store in southend - but i dont have my original receipt.

What is my best course of action in regards to taking it back? Go Virgin for replacement / call MS?

If i did go Virgin what spiel do i have to give them about my rights etc..?

Obviously though - i do want to keep my HDD for saves.

/edit

FFS just did it again on TDU :( - Happens after about 10 Mins :(

/edit

And again - gonna leave it on the dashboard for a little while now, see what happens.

Wheres VIRII when you need him :p

I think im gonna take it to my local Virgin tomorrow - with a print out of my CC statement. Hopefully get it replaced but try and keep my hard drive.

If they give the garbage of 30day retusn blah blah - whats the website with my rights within the first 12months?

My DVD drive is making a lot more noise than normal, maybe its just some games like N3 stop and start the disk more than most, but i am getting worried :(
