360 or PS3?

I wouldn't touch dedicated PC speakers..

What you want is something like the Sony HT-SS500..

http://www.sony.co.uk/view/ShowProd...ype=Overview&category=HCS+Cinema+Surround+Kit

internet prices are £120, has optical/coax input..

I know you don't want '5 speakers', so either don't plug the centre/rears in and select 2.1 as you audio mode.. or double up your speakers, i.e put your rear left on top of the front left, etc..

Then, when you want to take advantage of positional surround sound, which can be awesome in some games, you just need to put the speakers where they should be....

I've been through lots of PC speakers, until I acquired a similar setup to what I've suggested, and considering the price.. they are truly excellent VFM..

Other then, I agree with neocon, a cheap amp/speakers will sound infinitely better then any 2.1 setup..

The thing is the ps3 will be situated near my pc, thats why I dont want too many speakers or equipments as it will look too messy.

Im looking at 32" tvs now, cant be bothered to waste time lookin at speakers.

With either neocon/my suggestion, you can use 1 set of speakers for both PC and PS3, I do this for my 360 which is next to my PC... one uses coax digital, the other optical digital, to switch between them, I just press a button on the front of the amp unit..

What is the model number of that machine neocone showed?

I would prefer if to be one of that type of machine with 2 speakers

FYI, 'high definite' audio is only available by connecting through HDMI and is only available for media. For games, the best you can acheive is 5.1 audio through an optical (or indeed HDMI) connection.

Of course i already know that, and trying to highlight a grammatical error in my post doesnt exactly do anything for yours

5.1 through the optical is still very very good, and the downmixed DD+ is excellent, let alone what it can do through HDMI with a compatible amplifier. i don't have an amplifier with HDMI but i am quite happy with what i've achieved with the console. the sound really is very good indeed.

If the only point you're making is that some people have more money than others, then well done, give yourself a biscuit. :)
well im not, but sure if that keeps you happy why not? :o if on a budget i'd sooner recommend a stereo amp and two nice bookshelf speaker than a cheap 5.1 set. did you ever consider that? of course not, you just seem to think all i do is tell people to spend lost of money:)

thats the idea. minimises any clutter and makes things very easy for you to switch between ect:)

both identical:) the only real difference between the two is when you start using cables > 10m in lenght. optical cables are far better at retaining signal strength when you're dealing with very long lengths. if your only talking about cables a few feet long, use whatever's cheapest:)

Actually demon's suggestion isnt too bad.

I can get what he suggested and just plug the centre, front 2 speakers in. And the 2 rear speakers, I iwll just throw them away.

If you get a ps3 and don't have a hdtv I hope you don't mind watching movies in black and white, or green even. And if you have a 720p hdtv I hope you don't mind blu-ray movies being downscaled to 480p.

unless you can use 1080i. pain in the backside, isnt it lol?

What annoys me is that it is being advertised as a blu-ray player, yet it doesnt support half the features, ie no 720p output, no 1080p over analogue, no vga connector and no analogue 5.1.

Then it being advertised as an entertainment system, but it doesn't even support divx, avi, wmv, mkv, ogg, flac, or dvd files. Doesn't support video streaming or file transfer.

It's really a games console with minimimal media support and basic blu-ray playback, not worth £425.

And it's a disgrace that it plays movies in black and white on sdtvs, or green if you use scart, that is just not on, sony have such a bad attitude to it's customers.

i dont know about rgb but both bd-roms and sd dvds play back in colour just fine using composite @ 576i. obviously it doesnt look to hot on a 40" panel but its in colour lol.

What tv would you guys recommend for consoles? How many Inch?

I'm looking at 32" to 37" as it is for my bedroom, don't fancy something too big.

Plasma or LCD?

And what brand do you guys usually go for?

NOTE: Do not recommend SONY.
