Hi all
sorry if these details are a bit sketchy, I haven’t seen it first hand.
My mate has an xbox 360. suddenly a fault has appeared.
When he turns it on it starts up but after a bit the circle around the power button turns red and an error message appears. Is there a fix for this. Has it happened to anyone? It’s still under warranty, he bought it from game this year.

If the red light is all the way around the button then the console component has died and the console needs replacing. He can take it back to whichever shop he bought it from or send it direct to Microsoft.

If it's only 1 red quadrant then I wouldn't worry about it, mines done around 10-15 of those.

tell him to take it back to GAME and ask them to swap for a brand new one, they have to allow him under terms and conditions.

Tell him to make sure the controller and leads at the back are connected properly, sometimes you get red lights if they aren't connected fully.

If it's not that, then yes, take it back.

If his video connection wasn't connected he wouldn't be getting an error message.

He should just take it back to GAME. It's a 5 minute switch over. Though, he will lose his HDD saves (if it's a premium).

i think it may be red all the way
so there is no way to save the hdd info, he had like 150 albums on there that he worshipped :(
could he swap the hdd onto the new one?

If the Game staff are nice they MAY allow it, I wouldn't hold out much hope. It's possible it's the HDD thats corrupt. When I swapped my HDD onto my mates console it caused nothing but problems too.

When I get a 360 I'm thinking it might make more sense to buy a 'core' and get a separate HDD to avoid this type of dilemma.

Won't that cost more getting everything separately?

Not necessarily, especially as I don't need everything in the Premium pack. But what price can you put on game saves which may have taken hundreds of hours to amass.

It's no dilemma, just buy a memory card too, even just for taking to a friends house!

I'm not sure if we're talking at cross purposes? :) I do accept the need (or at least the desirability) to have a hard drive, I just think it might make more sense to buy one separately from the console, so that if one fails, I don't need to return both to the store or the manufacturer.

I see your point. However, the wireless pads and component cables are also valuable additions to the Xbox360 Premium, especially if you come to use the component at a later date, if not, you could get £10 atleast back for it by selling it.

True :) I'm thinking that I would probably prefer the wired controller anyway though, which I presume is lighter and doesn't need batteries or recharging ever.

Thats true, however, I love the weight of the Xbox360 controller with the battery is, it's so balanced! My mate got both because he thought he would prefer the wired one and he never uses it!

Couldn't agree more there.

For a week I had both a core unit and a premium (core was in the process of being sold) and I tried the same game (cod2) with both pads and the wireless one felt much nicer imo.
