360-watchdog

bad publicity = new buyers will have to rethink of buying the xbox 360. With PS3 being released soon, MS should get their act together with nearly 1.5 year old console.

If I was in the market for new console I'd be worried spending £££ on a console that might stop working after the warranty has ended.

il be emailing them, i find 1 year warranty totally carp basically

i have a housemate who treats his 360 like carp, falls over all the time, left on all day, it really does get hammered, mine is off the carpet, treated it really well etc, after my 1st one died, his is going, mine has died.

The git switched the console!!

bought one shortly after Christmas 2006, its one of the original models (with the tosh/samsung) DVD drive , did get lugged about a bit, usually to Raikiri's house afore he got his, and until recently hasn't been set up in a 'heat free zone' :p.

i have had 2 problems with my 360:
a) a duff game, played it for an hour or so, and the game stopped working  no scratches, but it was promptly replaced, and:
b) left my 360 on next to a mates radiator, bad idea, it overheated, i literally moved it a little further away from the radiator, turned it back on and no problem  didn't even have time to cool down.

maybe i just got lucky :D

i was also put off from getting a xbox 360 because of so many scary news. Whenever i saw an offer, i just hesitate because i don't want the hassle of sending it to MS for repair with the high likelyhood of failure. prefer to get a wii or a slim PS2 instead.

my original xbox dvd drive has stop working now but i don't feel very bad about it since i didn't pay over £200.

I'm on me 3rd and I only bought it in Dec06

But I will say my 3rd one does seem to be running sweet. Plus I forgot to take back my wireless controller last time and the store replaced the whole thing, so i'm up a wireless controller..

Well what do you expect, freakin' three 360's all the time and effort of having to box & bag the damn things up, the least i should be up on is a wireless controller.

I really have ZERO faith in this hardware, as soon as V2 is out, i'll be flogging mine on ebay and going for the hopefully more reliable version.

So what is truth behind this mass unreliablity problem? Did they sacrifice design to get it out before the PS3? Or are their hardware engineers a bunch of bufoons?

The controller is spot on, but the 360 itself is a hit and hope !

don't see what watchdog can really do, after all MS is replacing any faulty consoles within its 1 year warrenty period just like any other manufactor would. I wonder how many various PC components get sent back every year yet you don't hear about this on such a program, too me just sounds like a bunch of whinging kids or young adults who just wanna grab some headlines and try to make MS seem the big bad wolf

Because thats individual components. I've never seen 20 or 30 users of say a leadtec 6800GT complain inside of a month their product is borked.

If Hotpoint bought out a fridge that broke this often it would be headline news. If my new car broke down 3 times in a year and lots of others did the same it would be headline news.

I expect problems with any new product but the 360 is beyond a joke, the biggest joke is this comment....

"I'll stand by my original point. If you are on your 4th or 5th 360... well work it out!"

Work what out. What do you want me to do? It sits on the side of a not very dusty room. A good 18 inches clearance around all sides on a cool side board. Its never moved from the first day it's plugged in. I never even touch it. I eject and close the dvd tray with the controller.

What more do you want me to do. Use it less? Put the dvd in the tray wearing a fallout suit?

How many wii threads have we had from disgruntled users, or even ps3 threads?

one two?

Industry standard my arse. If you bought an extended warranty it should be refunded and all the V1's should be 3 years.

and how many of those other consoles you mentioned have been out a year and a half, the problems will come with the wii and ps3, and we'll probably see just as many gripes

'It's not just our console that is unreliable'

Worst excuse ever.

i'm not trying to excuse them, i agree, there shouldn't be this many breakages, but i'm playing devils advocate in wondering how many threads there will be about broken wii's/PS3's in the next year and a half

I have to say i'm vey surprised at the peopl ein this thread all "sticking up" for the XBOX 360. it's a great console but has a terrible reliability record... som epeople have gone though several consoles it stands to reason they have a right to be angry. The console has a problem, which needs to be fixed.

I'd be surprised if the number of Wii failures was especially high. Time will tell on the PS3, though it would have to be seriously messed up to get anywhere near the 360 failure rate.

why, if you have a working 360, and never had to replace it, why wouldn't you stick up for M$, you have to remember, they don't manufacture the parts, they source them from other companies, so the problem technically its not M$ fault, for all we know they have sorted it with their providers, at least they have prompt and good service.

there was a guy on the net who had to have his wii replaced 3 times, straight out the box as there was a dvd drive fault

Which is unlucky, but proves nothing.

All electrical items will have a certain number of failures. It's not a question of if, it's how many.

SO basically if you don't have a problem then you defy all logic and shut your eyes to whats actually happening? Something has to happen directly to you for you to anhknowledge it? Goodness grief, what a narrow-minded view...

The fact is that regardless of where the parts are sourced form, Microsoft is responsible for each of those consoles. They should ensure that the quality control is a lot higher than has already been displayed. Hopefully all the problems will be fixed in the rev 2 , but for many owners that's already way too late.

Do they have to be? I moan about famine in Africa, but i'm not going hungry.

thats not true, i said a few posts up that this many shouldnt be breaking, so get your facts straight, i then added it's not entirely M$ fault, as they don't make their own parts, i also added that they should be sorting this out with their suppliers, and it's not to late because many owners have received prompt and good service from M$.
