Just got a new 4070 super. Tried a few games. Cp2077 was great But cpu usage was still only 40-50%. Tried Robocop rogue city and the main menu was a slideshow because the cpu usage was 100% while the gpu was in the 20's to 30's. That's a ue5 game. Just wanted to know if this is a cpu issue and if so what my cpu upgrade options are?

Ideally a 9800X3D, but a 7800X3D wouldn’t be a bad choice. Next up a 5800X3D but you’d still be a quite GPU top heavy.

5700X3D if you want to stick to same mobo? Otherwise look at an AM5 board, CPU and DDR5 setup.

Thanks for that. My cpu is the problem here right? 3700x is bottlenecking the GPU? Would the 5700X3D stop the bottleneck at 1440p? That cpu is not too pricey I think which is great. Want to try and avoid getting a new board and ram since I just bought a 600 quid gpu.

What games do you play that are CPU intensive? Do you play any strategy games? X3D can help with higher lows on frame rate, so can improve perceived smoothness.

I don't play any any strategy games no. Would mainly be playing ue5 games as most games that I like use that engine. I'm not looking for amazing performance, just normal performance paired with my 4070 super. The fact that my cpu absolutely gave up on the main menu of a ue5 game is worrying me a lot. Doesn't seem normal?

I think the 5700X3D will give you want you'd want. A smoother, better experience and won't cost as much as going AM5.

See data here for a 5800X3D link. Then check out this and this.

Thanks for all the info, much appreciated. Will have to seriously consider it now even though my gpu was the last upgrade i planned for quite a while.

No problem. I can't link you source, but 5700X3D can be had for crazy price. Once you sell your 3700X, may even be a £50 upgrade cost to you. The 5700X3D will probably last you another GPU or two before you wanna do a bigger upgrade.

Where do we stand on buying cpu's second hand?
5700/5800X3D CPUs do not allow manual ratio OC.

Don't have overide for CPU clock under PBO either.

You can do CO tuning and gains some power/temperature, some of my data link.

These IMO are very safe to buy used. You may be able to get new for around £135.

I'm also on the 3700x. Would like some clarity on whether or not OP's problem really is due simply to the CPU being old. Mine serves me fine still although I don't think I've played any UE5 games to be fair.
