3800x thread.

Not really looked at the forums for a week or so as ive been busy sailing, my bro told me last night there was a new BIOS for the X570 Taichi, which i have applied, and also a new Power Plan and a new Chipset, which i have also applied. Doesnt seem to have improved my CPU's performance in any noticeable manner however.

Is there more mileage in a manual OC on the CPU now? or is it still best to stick with leaving the mobo on default, making sure mem and IF is set to 3600mhz and turning PBO off in the BIOS?

Ive noticed in CB20 my all core boost is around 4.16 to 4.2, HWinfo shows some cores briefly hitting 4.525, whats most people getting theirs clocked to right now? with both Manual and auto OC?

Any response to the above question? updated to latest 1.80 Bios on the x570 Taichi but still wondering if i should dial in a manual OC or leave it all on auto? thoughts?

Little price drop on 3800x which is nice.

Are we seeing the 38 pull ahead at all from the 37xx

Nothing yet. I can't get mine to draw more than 60W at all, but it will boost and all core max the current expected figures as other 3800X's. The 3700X's I've seen draw 140+ Watts in HWINFO. Never on mine. Havent got Eco or power saving mode set in BIOS......Unless the BIOS has it back to front, I may try that.

I'm annoyed at the 3700x getting a price bump to £320 when it was £300, the 3600 looks really tempting right now as an extra £130 for 2c/4t extra seems a little steep.

Just relax. There is finally something from AMD that worth buying with pretty much zero regret about going Intel.

Prices will settle soon and stock will be plentiful and bios will be optimised.

Let the early adopters do the work. :-)

I've already ordered a x570 Aorus Elite, RAM and a new case :D (The board isn't going to be with be until the 29th so I can wait to find a price drop hopefully).

Mine shows some improved scores but it’s by no means huge gains. It’s more getting the balance of voltage and core clock to be fair, I’m currently using a cheap air cooler while the rig is in design so capping out at 4.425 @1.45v before thermal gets triggered.

Morning all. I went for the 3800X in the end, and we got a 3700X for my partner's computer. So far the main difference I've noticed is mine is louder! I get quite high temps (up to 85C) using the stock cooler, and it seems to stay at 4.4GHz most of the time according to the various monitoring tools. I have an AIO liquid cooler arriving in a couple of days...

Anyone else noticed high temps and loudness with the wraith cooler?

Other than that, I am very pleased. I might mess around more with OCing it later in the week.

I used the wraith for a while because my AIO broke during the build. It was quite noisy and temps mostly in the 60s to 80s.

Replaced with new AIO and its much better. Most temps in 40s to 60s, peaking around 73.

I currently have the 2700. Was looking at the 3900x but looking at benchmarks for premier pro and photoshop the 3800x is not far behind and £200 cheaper.

Then i saw the YouTube vid suggesting there was no pint getting the 3800x over the 3700x

The 3800x is currently £40 more but is it worth it. We need more comparisons std vs oc

I think all reviews will be/ have been pointless until its clear that the microcode isn't playing a big part in performance.

Hold out another 3 months and the CPU's will be all re reviewed, and we'll know whether they are pretty much all the same etc etc

I'm running the H115i Platinum ($105 Prime day deal)
It works well with one caveat: Corsair;s iCue software is one of the monitoring programs that keeps the cores boosting and voltages high-ish. If you don't run the software, you get unicorn-puke RGB and "balanced" for the profile. (Neither of which I want) I ended up connecting the fans to the CPU fan header, creating a restore point, installing and running the software long enough to load a plain white static color and aggressive pump profile to the hardware. I also setup a fan profile for the corsair PSU and loaded that to the hardware too.

...Then I uninstalled the software and restored the PC to before the software was installed and it works well.

If I had known about all the hoops through which I would have to jump, I probably would have just got a "dumb" AIO or went with air.

Out of interest what swayed you to the 3800x?

I just went for the best cpu I could afford, even after watching YouTube videos. I still felt the 3800x was what I wanted. In the past I went for cpu's told me to get and I wished I went for what I picked in the first place.

Cool. Better go for your gut feeling.

I always remember getting a 2500K, even though I could afford the 2600k. But didn't get the 2600K because friends told me I didn't need it for gaming, so now I go with what I think

Though both CPU"S were great, I still feel I should have gone 2600K
