3800X2 worth it?

Corsair HX is a decent PSU, around 500W would do nicely.

Don't bother with the E6550, save the money and get a E2180 or E2200 and buy a 512MB graphics card instead.

If the Corsair 500W would do, would my existing Tagan 480W do? I think it's 480 or 450

It's no Core2Duo but my x3800+ clocked to 3.5ghz and 500 mhz ram was a beautiful system!!! Add in 2GB's of ram, stripe the boot disk and you styling!

I went from a 4000+ @ 3Ghz to an X2 3800+ @ 2.7Ghz and I certainly noticed an overall difference.

Then I got my 8800GT, and it really started to shine.

But I now have an E2160, MSI Neo2-FR and 2GB Geil Black Dragon to install next week :D

Well assuming 4Gb is not going to be worth it if I carry on running XP, which I probably will

If you will be running xp you won’t even see the full 4gb. save your cash and go for some cheap as chips 30quid 6400 2gb.

I have a Tagan 580W psu and it powers an overclocked quad core, overclocked gfx a bunch of hdds, two water pumps and many many 120mm fans!

People forget the fact new gen hardware in generally is more efficient and less power hungry.

A HD3850pro 512mb is the sweet spot and will consume far less power than your old 800xl! same can be said about the dual core, even though its two cores, under load its less hungry than your single core san diego amd!!

Ok, cheers guys. Just had excellent news about my flat increasing in price now, just need to wait on how much my new kitchen is going to cost me, see if mate wants to buy mine and see what is left over :D

Sorry, addition to this. Still waiting to get this sorted and just tossing up whether to go AMD or Intel now. Do I go for the E2200 or a AM2 Black Edition 5000+

or

Intel Core 2 Duo E2200 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.20GHz (800FSB) - Retail £48.99

What's that card, ram and motherboard like? Is there any benefit of changing any of it. Just want to try and get it all down as close to £300 as possible. Probably will continue to use XP and only really used for FSX.

Thanks again

The RAM is good, but I reckon people will say get some Crucial Ballistix instead.

I think the 5000+ BE will do 3ghz overclocked, not sure how this would compare to the E2200.

Well im not sure about the gfx card as i have a hd2900 pro, nor the mobo as i have still got an old 965p ds4, but as for the ram i wouldnt go near it, i had that same ram 4months and it just packed in, my m8s packed in 6months, instead i bought corsair c46400 800mhz 2gb, ran sweet as ever since

ok, just bought the Q6600 B3 and an EVGA 8800GTS off from MM along with

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
OCZ StealthXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply
OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2 (OCZ2P800R22GK)

Hopefully this should all be ok

That will be a kickass setup! :)

Stick with that cheaper OCZ ram, the Ballistix sticks are unmatched when it comes to overclocking and that’s the ONLY reason why they cost a premium. With that setup you just won’t need pc 8500 ram.

That B3 quad wont clock as well as the G0 stepping but Im sure with that setup it will run 3ghz, that will be so so much quicker than an old 3800x2!!
