3870x2 3dmark06

I'll tell you later when I've installed 36mark06. But I don't expect them to be much better, as 3dmark really favours ATI and to be honest doesn't really reflect the in game performance

All benchmarks favour ATi :p.

Why is that? Do they:

1) Make better cards/drivers but somehow nVidia do far better at getting games developers to optimise their games via TWIMTBP programme?

2) ATi optimise their cards for benchmarks rather than games?

3) nVidia optimise their cards for games rather than benchmarks?

4) Benchmarks are not actually any good at showing performance?

There's probably options 5-10 that I haven't thought of. Oh and I am not being fanboyish (as I switch quite often) just really curious.

I wouldn't say 3d mark favours ATI cards at all, it's more a case of the 29/38 series favouring to run without AA applied, hence why they keep up with (and even beat) the GTX in a lot of games, it's only when AA is applied they start begging for mercy, something which I hope ATI fix in time for their (real) next gen card.

i really dont expect big improvments with the r700 over the 680 i do belive that ati is now going down the multi gpu road and if you want better performance you get another graphics card to add in and because crossfire is newer than sil it seems to scale far better , and ati seem to have 80 to 90 % scaling in some games

not completely true. At higher resolution and 8x AA 16x AF the 3870 even outperforms the Ultra in some cases

**edit...actually that's a summary of game benchmarks, not 3dmarks so nevermind :p

If those kind of scores turn out to be true once the card is released and depending on the price, i might be tempted to replace the 8800gt for one. I think they will be best part of £300 though so might hold off a bit. If they appeared at £200 then i would get one.

well maybe not, but an off the shelf single card and it if it was a good price then it would be a winner
