3870x2 running cod4

8 + 6 pin pcie connectors? Anyone know why it needs more power than 2x x3870xt's?

Edit: D'oh, just realised the 8 pin will make up for the lack of a second pcie slot.

On another note, does anyone else notice the cod 4 framerate looks proper gash, sure it's (apparently) running at 2500x1600, but that's one the least graphically intense parts of the game, plus there's no enemy AI onscreen what so ever, the player is just walking about on an empty map.

I hope it's going to be a blinding card, but to be honest I arn't expecting much at all.

psst, I reckon AMD told the player to kill all the enemy AI before they allowed the camera crew in, as it wouldn't look good showcasing their new card running at a max of 4fps, lol.

I think I as a lot of other people will do is wait for proper benchmarks from the main websites (ie bit-tech, xbit, firingsquad, anandtech etc) before dropping any money on this card (and the 9800GX2 or whatever its now called for that matter).

I must say I do have my doubts about this card
(just like I do with the 9800GX2) - I say this simply from reviewing different benchmarks showing 3870 CF results against other cards (ie my 8800GTX). In some games the 3870 are faster but in others they are slower than a single 3870.

Douby Ai in COD4 would have that much of a hit highly doubt it. Also the 2900XT had a 6pin and an 8pin, the 3870X2 should run with 2x 6pin fine. If it dont it better come with an 8pin coz I dont wanna pay 8 quid for one from corsair.

Mate think about AA at that resolution anyways! Its not like its needed, plus slap AA on at that resolution and the card has a hell of a lot to do! Not trying to defend it I just see AA @ 2500x1600 as being pretty much unnecessary

Had a GTX, two infact, bored of them.

How do you get bored of a graphics card? Thats really quite daft, especially if you've got two. It's a tool for running games well. The excitement of fitting a new card lasts 30 minutes then you are back to square 1.

I enjoy playing with and overclocking new stuff.

As I said I had the GTX for a year, so its not like I bought it the other day and now i'm changing it again.

Each to their own.

Only gonna go for it if it works properly though, not gonna buy into something that could be a worthless broken gimmick, (hello nvidia quad sli).

Bit early to sell your Ultra tho, what I am doing is I've wrote up description for the GT on the bay and when I get some info on price and performance I click one button and bang its up :D, gotta know enough info at least 3 days before its released.

I'm thinking of going quad crossfire with this as well - not before getting a 3007wfp.

I'm sort of relying on this for powering games at the 3007wfp's native resolution - so if it doesn't I don't think I'll bother.
