Not in 2010 (Design in my case) you can't, it's been removed for some reason and theres just a conserve memory option, 2009 did have the option though.You can set the max memory allowance for rendering in mental ray under render setup>processing>memory limit.
The learning curve with 3dsmax is very steep, probably the most frustrating 3d app to learn (or so i'm told). Head over to www.cgtalk.com - biggest community for all things cgi related, very helpful, beginner friendly and full of industry veterans aswell.yea thank you... well im just starting my degree so im just playing with it, and seeing what i have to do, thts the kind of advice i need.. thanks i just wanted to know why it crashed with the performance of my pc! you know?

Not sure I would guess it's on both as the core program is the same.that's annoying- is it just the design version?
