3D worth it???

My point is that it can though. CGI made the Avatar storyline forgiveable.....3D made it even more so

I quickly wears off though. After a while you realise that you've seen it and the rest is just, well hollow.

I see the 3d aspect as another distraction for film makers to add to CGI. Just look at what happened to the Star Wars films. They spend so much time and effort on fancy visual effects, they forget all of the other stuff that make up a great film. There are a few exceptions but they're certainly in the minority IMO.

it isnt true, most of the current 3D tellys will be able to convert sky 3d into shutter style tech just by using a high speed hdmi cable. the telly will do the rest :)

To clarify this issue, sky 3d will support both active and passive 3d tvs, and the customer will have to inform them what tv they have at the time of setup (according to the sky reps I spoke to on monday), and the content they showed us was in side-by-side format, which is then converted by the tv. The reps also said that 3dtv will be like HD: a premium product that won't be good value for at least 3 years.

As already said, the 3dtvs are also stunning in 2d, besides having the benfits of 3d if that's your thing. The samsung xxC8000 led's have freeview HD, beautiful colours, and some great internet TV functions (eg the ability to stream any of lovefilm's entire library of films whenever you want, bbc iplayer etc.). If I had the cash I'd rock the 55" for £3k, but I don't :(

Jeez. The first manufacturer to build a sub-£1k projector with full 3D TV format support should make a killing. If it were me splashing three grand I'd be getting a decent 42" telly for normal viewing and a 1080p 3D projector for the odd movie and game
