3dConnect x1950 problems from fleebay

My experience with an X1950XT wasn't dissimilar!

It would crash often and lock up. I bought this 7600, then all my games worked minus Counter-Strike: Source which had the same error.

But recently I bought a new PSU - I upgraded from a 550W Thermaltake to a 620W Corsair, and now CS:S works!

So I think my PSU was the problem all along. Going from my experience, I would say your problem is the PSU :)
 
yeah the card seems OK. I might just have to bite the bullet and pay up for a another PSU.

going to be super mad if it turns out to be the G/FX card.

65 degrees should be no problem at all, assuming you let it run until it topped out. What did you test with? 3DMark06 does stress your video card beyond what any game will though. Which model is it btw - Pro, XT or XTX? Even the XTX only uses something like 124W. 12V * 18A = 216W, 12V * 16A = 192W, so either rail should be fine to power that card, assuming the PSU is in good working order and not too old (they do degrade over time). Never heard of North Q which is a bit worrying, hope they're not related to Q-Tec. Certainly a 500W Q-Tec would most likely blow up with an X1950 XT/XTX.

New PSU might fix it, but it's not guaranteed to. A quality PSU is always a good investment though.
 
@fish99 your right the about PSU. it should handle that card easily. Read the review of the PSU the link is at the top of this thread. It cost me £50 about 4 months ago so should still be in good working order.

I really think the card is dead.
 
It's not only about the wattage, though.

For example my old PSU could give out 550w of juice, but when the GFX card started up it'd suck the voltage down to ~11volts on the 12v rail, possibly even lower as I was using a digital voltmeter which isn't good for reading dips (because it only reads once or twice a second). I'm willing to bet that my old PSU was dipping enough in voltage to crash the card - I haven't tested my new one to compare with yet, but now I think of it I'll definately look into it.

I certainly wouldn't rule out the PSU... it might say 500W but that doesn't mean it's decent ;) Of course your PSU could be fine! But don't rule it out as I've wasted about £100 in troubleshooting by ruling my PSU out too early only to find it was the problem after all.

Is it me or does -55% efficiency at full load seem a little low?
 
if I really do have to get another power supply then I'm getting at least 600w, might get the corsair HW but in the 600w model as it is on special offer this week.

also was looking at this one OCZ StealthXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply as I don't need modular and it was £58 including Vat.

Be careful with those... as far as i've heard these aren't very stealthy at all. Decent enough and a good price but fairly noisy. Seen one barely a week old go on the members market as the owner couldn't stand it!

If that doesn't bother you then go for it. :)

It wasn't a recommended PSU as it had no MOV resistor on it or something (Basically very bad not to have one).

On my thread all the guys are recommendedthe Corsair 520W, and looking into it, its a very nice unit. Just buy it. (Also a recommended for one of the akasa's as well).

Oh and mine crashes and artifacts.. and thinking about it, my 6800LE overclocked artifacts sometimes as well, so I think my real big 500W is a big lemon, much like your current PSU. (Even though the specs suggest it should be better it prob isn't good enough). The corsair can manage to graphics cards, so you having "only" one will be no problem.

Well, you didn't say which model you have, Pro/XT/XTX, but I would say no 75W isn't enough. That lead may well do the trick though. I think it's worth a try before you spend £60+ on a new PSU.

I've had good results with Enermax PSUs myself so this looks a good option should you choose to go for a new PSU -

Don't think you need worry about getting a 600W. A quality 450-500W will run a dual-core + 8800 GTS.
 
thanx for the speedy replies on the replacement PSU.

A good friend of mine suggested using that cable. He also said to try an old PSU connected just to the new GFX card, this would prove it is a power issues. I'll try it tomorrow and let you know the results.

Ok, if we really can't change your mind about the 620W version, then look around you can get it for £ (I can't tell you where due to forum rules) & IF YOU READ THEM YOU CAN'T QUOTE PRICES EITHER, and the 520W for £ish (add delivery of course).

However, you REALLY won't need the 620W version. You'll be wasting your money. As mentioned it can support TWO graphics cards, so why are you paranoid it won't support your single card?

Don't waste your money... just get the 520W.

Stop focusing on the W rating. That is like cars, BHP sells cars, torque wins races. Well the corsair has the torque, it doesn't need to have a bull**** wattage rating to sell it.
