hi

i bought a Phenom Quad Core 9500+ yesterday. i'm running it without the bios fix patch because i've had no crashs also i don't want the small performance hit...

anyway today i ran 3dmark06 on a clean xp install. the cpu score im very happy with, and its about right but gpu scores are too low.. any idea why?

gpu @ 743core/ 825memory

3DMark Score 10238 3DMarks

SM 2.0 Score 4105 Marks

SM 3.0 Score 4459 Marks

CPU Score 3285 Marks

Detailed Test Results

Graphics Tests
1 - Return to Proxycon 32.937 FPS

2 - Firefly Forest 35.475 FPS

CPU Tests
CPU1 - Red Valley 1.088 FPS

CPU2 - Red Valley 1.587 FPS

HDR Tests
1 - Canyon Flight (SM 3.0) 44.986 FPS

2 - Deep Freeze (SM 3.0) 44.187 FPS

Have you had a bios update to run your phenom? or have you just put it in?

no.. my motherboard is a am2+.. it's been made for that cpu..

the bios fix is only for if the system keeps crashing, also with the patch theres a 13-20% performance hit. but my system hasn't crashed so no need to put it on.

You're running a HD2900Pro, right?
yes but it's @ 743core/ 825memory....

could it because my 4gb is running in single channel? on my 6000+ is was running in dual channel..

3dmark isn't reporting those speeds:

Video Memory 512 MB
Core Clock 506 MHz
Memory Clock 513 MHz

But even so, its almost as quick as an 8800GT from the score you have there.

3DMark hardly reports the correct seeds from what I've seen.

What was your previouse CPU getting? That might just be normal since AMD CPU's seem to be slower than Intel CPU's etc..

But then again I would be expecting like 13,000+ from that actually.

but thats the 2d clock. 3dmark doesn't report the 3dclock...

heres the results from my 6000+... gpu @743 / 825

3DMark Score 10486 3DMarks

SM 2.0 Score 4485 Marks

SM 3.0 Score 4939 Marks

CPU Score 2586 Marks

stock 2.2ghz... but it can't be bottlenecking because the cpu score is higher than the 6000+

I know it might sound stupid but maybe try re installing windows?

Maybe backup your existing windows installation first thought so you dont loose anything if you find out it made no difference.

i reinstalled xp last night but im thinking of doing it again... but first i meant take 2gb's out and see if it will run in dual channel then run 3dmark again.. could it be that?

I dont think it could be the ram, but try it, since you are in XP it wont see 4gb anyway try 2gb.

It cant be the Phenom becuase it has a higher score. May try and reinstall Xp, you could try and overclock it just to see if it is affecting the gpu scores.

Well he said there are no multithreaded apps out, if he is refering to games too he's wrong as Supcom is, but I dont get what he is on about 3dmark 06 not been multithreaded, it takes advantage of 4 cores as you can see with intels.

You score should be higher and I think your other ones are too, but if the graphics tests are not using all cores it might make sense.

You X2 6000+ @ 3Ghz might of being boosting the scores, so try clocking your phenom to 3Ghz and see the gains, I just thought about that, if the graphics tests only use not say 1 core then its bound to be faster on the X2 6000+ overclocked.

So get that phenom to 3Ghz and see if the results are better, it looks like the gain from your old CPU to this quad is minimal, obviously the gain will be a lot higher in apps that can utilise all 4 cores.

seens i can't overclock it via amd overdrive software and in the bios the voltage controls are grayed out... so i guess i gonna wait for a bios update..

In the cpu tests the quad core is taken full advantage of, however when it comes to sm2 and sm3 Im pretty sure the reason for your lower scores is due to the raw clock speed of the two processors you had 3.0Ghz vs 2.2Ghz.
