£3k, fun, 21, help!

haha good man :) PeludeUK forum is a good place to start, myself and some others on here are on there (think theres a few others anyway)!

There isn't a DC2 worth owning that can be bought for 3k so forget them tbh.
Could get a tidy Civic VTi 3hb for that.

If RWD is a must then 200sx, potential to be a money pit for that budget though and deffo poor fuel economy :p

Have just registered Dreadi :)

Why not worth it? Tired suspension etc?

It isn't a must, just not a hundred percent whether I wanna go back down the FWD route.

200sx is also a big no with the £1500+ insurance quotes I got :P

Haha, important bookmarks you have. ;) :p

The £3k ITRs will be dogs, basically. You're looking at double that for a decent worthwhile one really.

200SX is probably not the best car to pick with it's tail happy nature and ideally needing mods to make it handle well.

Yeah mk2 isn't as good as mk1, bit more lardy etc, still quite a fun car though.

The Mk1 and Mk2 MX-5 are for all intents and purposes the same car.

I would go for a 1.8, although the mk2 1.6 is not too bad (better than the late mk1 1.6)

You can pick up a mint mk1 for £3000 and i have seen a few on mx5 nutz for £1500-2000 recently that were very very good.

Look out for sill rust, knacked bushes and tired shocks.

Even this isn't the end of the world as you could get it all the above done with decent parts etc for £1500.

If you bought a mk1 for £2000 with the suspension done and a decent hood you could spend £300 sorting out things like seals, belts etc.

I have a mk1 with 112k miles and it doens't miss a beat.

Aproctor yeah pretty similar. If i were to go down the MX5 route it would be buying my parents out of there's, tis the 1.6 Isola, so has hardtop alloys etc, 50k miles and lots of service history, would also leave a lot of money for things like coilies etc. Other possiblity is going to a mk1 just because lots more parts are available second hand through NUTZ and the OC kinda thing :S

Really, how?

Im almost 21 with 1years NCB, painter n decorator, put mother down who's a assessor

Guess my job and postcode are EXTREMELY **** for insurance haha

Fully comp, and I apologise its actually £750 excess, sorry again for mis-leading (did so many quotes last night that I must have mixed the figures up).
21 with 1 year NCB v.good postcode and mechanical engineer profession. Both rents down as named, ones operations manager other is librarian, 4k mileage. Also I should point out this is for a UK teg, I suspect JDM would be more expensive :)

How much are your parents selling it for?
It has coilovers, i think you mean adjustable coilovers, in which case there is little point if they are good.

As i said unless you are getting an amazing deal on the mk2 i wouldn't bother.

is that quote tpft?

Does that quote show the car? I can run a quote off showing £200 it doesn't mean it's for a teg etc.

That quote's about right for using his parents as the main driver - probably just doesnt want to fess up to it here for fear of being torn apart

My Mate just turned 21 and hes got a 96 spec Type R. He's a named driver on his dads policy and is paying £100 a month.

Tegs are awesome motors.

If he has had he licence since he was 17 and has 1 years ncb i'm not saying he can't get a quote for £750.

I am more dubious now as he showed a quote without the car details.

Yeah adjustable coilies to get it a bit lower as atm you could smuggle albanians under the arches. Parents would be giving it to me in exchange for my micra.

Heres an image, gone up a bit as changed mileage to 8k, after this realised that 4k was just pointless as Id use that up in half a year.

Also used fake names (I'm Jimmy Choo) as it all goes on database etc and i'm using a fake DOB (putting in I'm already 21 when i'm only 20 atm but am doing it as research to get a flavour of what I'll be able to afford in a months time.)

Also, IainD, can't really say that "being torn apart" by the ocuk police bothers me that much :)

I've never seen a mk2 with massive gaps under the arches tbh.

If it's a straight swop then coolio.

Get the car undersealed, clutch slave changed, belts, waterpump and gaskets done i.e. £400 and it should be good as gold.

Also wait until the winter i.e. middle of january and if the hard top is in good nick you should get £350-400 easily, especially if it has a hrw.
