Not sure if this should be in here or in the Motherboard section...

Got myself a shiny new Hitachi 3TB hdd to replace two 1TB drives in my media server.

The motherboard, an MSI P35 Neo2-FR, recognises the drive, when connected to the ICH9R ports, as 800GB with Windows showing 746GB.

I tried the Marvel connector and the Marvel bios shows it correctly at 3TB, but Windows BSOD until I rolled the driver back from the Marvel one to the Built in Windows one.

Now I would sooner use the ICH9R and have the Marvel connector turned off, has any one else had any luck running a >2.2TB drive on ICH9R

OS Win7 X86, Drive is set up as GPT

Hello Wonderlust, I shall have a look into this for you, see what the answer is here.

What version of an OS do you have as that will make the difference.

"NOTE: These drives are only bootable on 64bit versions of windows Vista and 7 as well as OSX and Linux. These will work as storage on 32bit versions."

This has been pulled from the bottom of the product description. As such, if it is on WindowsXP I would think there may be an issue as technically they are not supported however people have had them working.

You'll probably find that you need the Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers installed as well, or Windows will only see that 746MB.

Have the same HD, and once the IRST driver was installed it recoginised the full drive.

It's already installed.

Reply from MSI is not good :(

Dear Sir/Madam,

Ok a little update.

Whilst connected to the Marvel port I set the drive up as a GPT disk and partitioned it 2Tb and 1TB.

Now after MSI advised the info in the above post I decided to try the drive on another system with a P35/ICH9R (Asus P5K Premium) and the bios on this machine also displayed the drive as 800GB ish.

I booted into Windows 7 (x86) and the drive was showing both the partitions I had previously set up.

Tried the Drive back on one of the Neo2's ICH9R ports and that is also showing both partitions, so....

To you think it is safe to use the drive on the ICH9R or should I just stick to the Marvel port?
