Hi Guys,

Not sure if I'm doing this wrong but I have just bought 2- WD Green 3TB drives and installed the in Raid 1 (mirror) within Win7. Once they has synched I copied all my backup\media files on and left it to copy. Turned on Pc today and it is taking around 5-10 minutes before I can access any files on the drives (just get the green progress line in the address bar. any ideas would be welcome as I'm not to experienced with raid.

when you reboot check Disk Manager to see what's actually happening. I am guessing that the 2 drives are loosing sync (green drives are not the best for raid) so its causing a rebuild/sync that stops you accessing the drives.

the Red drives would have been a better choice for NAS / RAID.

regardless though they should work OK. I always use the hardware RAID option if possible. As you are doing a mirrored set hardware failure wont be an issue either as one both drivers will contain the content and be fully recoverable, even on a different controller. Windows software RAID sucks at best and i would avoid it unless 100% necessary.

This could also be because your computer has crashed.

When a crash occurs your mirror will try and resync, if you restart/switch off it will restart the process all over again until it resyncs fully, which on 3TB drives will take up to 10 hours roughly.

Leave your computer on and let the sync finish.
