£4,000.

Although I commute 70 miles a day none of it is motorway. Its all A roads and B roads. There large streches of A road done in a line of 55 mph traffic in 5th gear, but there are also a couple of towns to get through.

I know something like a Celica may be more fun, but I dont think it will be anywhere near as cheap to fix as a Ford. The Octavia still interests me though, mite have to stop and have a look in the Skoda garage on the way past in the morning.

Tbh i think a Celica and a mondeo would both be relatively cheap to run, i'd also argue that although a celica will cost a little more when things do break, you'd expect less things would generally go wrong in the first place. I'd expect an Octavia to cost more to run than either by quite a margin but still nothing astronomical.

Well a Celica is out. Spoke to the Girlfriend about it and her parents have a Celica and she hates it. Its refered to as 'the Devil Car' and seen as the Gf wanting to be on the insurance is part of the agreement that shes allowing me to spend house deposit money on a car, her opinion matters. I also dont think it would be a nice place to put my 6'4" frame for long journeys...

So... back to a vRS or ST220 again then... and side by side, I will always go for the ST220.

ST220 gets my vote...

My choices personally atm are :-

ST220 - Cheapest to buy, run, good spec and looks good (the logical choice)
RX8 - About the price im wanting to pay, expensive to run, good spec, looks brillaint (imo)
530i Sport - Expensive to buy for a decent one, not great to run?, brillaint spec, looks stunning

They are all fairly differant cars but there are cars I initially like the look of.

If you can find a good ST220 I would go for one, but even with the recent price drops I would be wary of a 220 for this price, if you find a 1/2 owner car with FFSH it would be worth a punt, but if something engine related goes wrong due to misuse from previous owners it can be expensive, although the rest of the parts are pretty cheap as you know by being a current ford owner. More than likely have to settle for one of the lesser colours too.

Im actually not such a fan of the Performance Blue. Id like somethign different. Narrowly missed out on a Red one. Ive never seen a Red ST220 in real life. My ideal colours would be black with the red leather, but I think I would go mad trying to keep it clean. I will accept any colour though.

I agree with the minimal owners. There have been a few about that have gone through a lot of people, but equally there have been those with only 1 or 2 owners. If the wheels have been refurned then your normally onto a winner. Unfortunatly, the £4k market for ST220s has just dried up... 2 weeks ago I could have shown you 3 or 4 nice ones, now theres nothing but a few 150,000 mile sheds for £3k...

And RX8 fails in terms of running costs, a BMW 530 fails due to fixing costs.

Yeah blue is a pretty poor colour ;)

You want silver!

Actually, Black with red leather and a saloon are the absolute ****. You'll do well to find one of those.

I dont mind any of the colours tbh! They all look pretty good

Blue - Looks sporty
Silver - Looks posh
Black - Looks badass
Red - Looks sporty...too...

:p

Jokes aside, if it was me i'd say blue would be the preference.

Dont get me wrong, I do like the blue, I just dont like the fact that 80% of the ST's I see are blue. In Blue its 'just another ST', whereas in a rarer colour its "ooo, is that an ST?"

I also find it strange that the most common colour also carries a price premium? Surely theres some backwards logic there... :)

I think the opposite and actually struggle to distinguish the ST's from a distance unless they are in the Performance Blue. :D and find that with the 220's that the colours are fairly spread, its more the ST TDCI that have the majority in blue I have seem to find.

On my trip to Oulton Park on Saturday I spotted 4 Silver STs. All of them were the diesels.

Sorry, there was a blue ST diesel aswell.

It's very rare I actually spot another true ST.
