4 Day Week

Yes, having a break on Wednesday would be a better idea, although it still has the potential to be a disadvantage rather than an advantage.

But a 3 day weekend allows you to do decent things in the weekend. You could take a weekend in france, or a weekend skiing break, get to go camping in the norht of scotland. Take a trip to Dublin. DO some serious DIY in your home, sort out your garden.

A day offf on wednesday is pointless- what can you do with one day, sleep all day- what a waste.

Last year I was always doing 10 our days and having 3 day weekends- meantI could drive don to LA, or up to portland, or vegas, or whereever.

yep, happens with the 5 day week, nothing to stop it happening with the 4 day week.

With a 5 day week you can't be arsed on monday and everyone plays around on friday and leaves early. Wednesday afternoon is midwwek break time so no work gets done, tuesday morning you are too depressed that it is still he start of the wee yet you have seemingly been in work for days on end already, so no work is done. By thrusday afternoon you are too tired from working hard through the week so you finish early.

:p

Yeh Its an advantage, you won't get much work done in the week though imo. I do serious diy in a normal weekend any way, the gardens a mess. Nothing will change that ;)

Nothing wrong with a good bit of sleep, leaves you less tired at the weekend.

lol, yep, I spent the Summer working in London, we spent the whole time watching the cricket. No such luck at school though :\.

personally i'd have no problems with a 4 day week, even if it meant i had to work the same number of hours in a shorter time. I'd rather have longer weekends at the expense of less time in the evening.

And I wouldn't mind taking a big pay cut (e.eg, half the salary) to have a 4 day week and 3 months holiday a year. What the point in earning money when you can't spend it properly and so you waste it on alohol and big TVs/computers to try and pretend that your happy and living a fulfilling life.

Why not actually live a happy fullfilling life doing things, travelling around the place, meeting people, having fun, actually living instead of being a slave to the system and earning moeny just to go back to the government.

Hence I'll be doing a PhD next year, money works out ok without taces, no fixed work schedule, can take time off, you can spread the work over 5 years, taking 6 months off to travel or do a ski season etc. I can take a 3 week hiking trip in the andes without using up precious 'vaction time!'

//PS sorry forn the mutiple post, I'm tired, drunk, and this topic has a place in my heart if you couldn't gather already!

Yeah, it's such a waste of a decent life to be stuck in a office 5 days a week, we could all be doing something much more productive.

I know what you mean, final year student working 10-16 hours a day with coursework and assigments piled up on my desk and a dissertation to write. Most work places are kind of easy in comparison to uni- and you even get paid for it!

I think based on history and social development, if you were to fast forward 100 years in the future they'd look back on us in disgust at the thought that we spent most of our waking hours in work every week, to get by.

Its difficult to speculate that, the world in 100 years will be a very different place.

oh come on now, this kinda thing strengthens the it'll do attitude britain has and makes us look yet more retarded in front of the rest of the world

I'm very lucky to do a 4 day week and still get paid for 5 days. I need it so I can look after my daughter on MOndays... I still have to do my full 35 hours though so just squeeze it into the 4 days. Unfortunately when I'm busy I still have to squeeze extra (unpaid) hours into just 4 days and it's not unheard of for me to fit 45 to 50 hours in. It sucks tbh.

I used to have a 4x10 hour working week rather than a 5x8 hour one. Much better IMO. If I'm going to be there for 8 hours, I may as well be there for 10! Plus you only get the rush hour traffic once a day, and miss it totally on the fifth day, which is even better!

I only have to do 4 hours on a friday which is pointless. I'd rather have 4 hours taken off me or do 1 hour extra a day.
I have floating days during the year and I always have wednesdays off.
