4 Different tyres - what do?

So, I just picked up a new car, a 10 month old old Peugeot 508 SW.

It has 4 different tyres on it. Not ideal - It was one of the first things I spotted when looking at it and took it into account on what I paid for the car. It's an approved used (main dealer) but apparently if the tread depth is OK and the tyres arent damaged then it passes.

Anyhoo, I want to get it sorted so that at very least I have matched pairs on each axle. What I have on the car is

1 x Pirelli P Zero Nero
1 x Conti Sport Contact 2
1 x Michelin Primacy HP
1 x Firestone Z90

The size is 235/45/R18. Apart from the Firestone, all the above are about £200 a corner. The tread on all of them is nearly new, there are only about 1000 miles on them. Apparently the previous owner have their own tyre depots and were obviously just chucked on whatever came to hand! What would be the best way to do it? 2 different tyres so that I have 2 matching pairs? (Thinking a pirelli on the front and conti on the rear). Or 3 new ones so that all 4 match? Or go all in and put 4 brand new ones on?

TIA :)

Four brand new ones is the best answer I can give, looks like it's £140 a corner on lovetyres for something decent.

If you cannot afford four new tyres then I'm going to have to make a comment about SPS (Stupid Purchase Scenario). Have a look into changing the tyre size a bit to lower the purchase cost, it may make the look of the car a bit skewiff however.

I have no issue putting 4 new tyres on if thats the best thing to do - it just seems a shame to throw 4 other nearly new tyres in the bin :)

I misread slightly, I thought your Firestone tyre was nearly new compared to the rest. Are you sure they're not part worns? What was the OE tyre from Pegeout, the Michelin probably? If so just get three of those if it really is nearly new.

They are not 200 quid each at all, what rubbish, they start at £135 from Lovetyres for P Zero's, £139 for F1A2's, etc. Plus 15ish for fitting obviously but not £200 a corner.

Next, how on earth do you manage to get 4 different tyres (of which I'm guessing the Michelin is the factory one) on a car thats so young? Has it been relentlessly rallied through building sites or something? It must have had 3 replacement tyres at different periods to end up so mismatched.

Ah no they're all about much the same age. The history from the previous owner (was part of the Europcar fleet) just says it had 4 new tyres less than 1000 miles ago. No idea why, as it's only got 8500 on the clock. The sales guy thought it could be a condition in their contract. Doubt they'd fit part worns, although you never know

I think it would be Michelin (The spare's a michelin) but nowhere seems to have the Primacy HP

ATS Quoted £200 for the Michelin and £190 for the Pirelli fitted. Not the best prices I know, just shopping around now.

See my other post, all 4 went on at the same time. Normally it would be an instant red flag, but given the age of the car, the fact it was a main dealer and the price of it... didnt bother me. It's in new condition otherwise, it was just some gimp at the depot making a rush choice.

I couldn't find any HPs either so they must be EOL, the three main branded tyres are all old releases so I don't think you'll find it easy to find stock and if/when you do it will be inflated over new versions (as they seem to do when stock levels diminish).

I couldn't find any HPs either so they must be EOL but also not necessarily now the OE tyre. To be honest the three main branded tyres are all pretty old designs so I don't think you'll find it easy to find stock and if you do it will be inflated over new versions (as they seem to do when stock levels diminish).

Makes sense.

Think I'll just get 4 F1AS2s and call it a day. If I can flog the existing ones on ebay for a few quid then it wont hurt.

Do that :)

Will do :)

Hadnt come across lovetyres before, seem to be good value. Do many places have issues fitting tyres they didnt supply? Only time I've bought them on their own was when I was having a set of wheels refurbed anyway

Call around first, smaller places will and bigger ones generally won't. I paid £36 fitted/balanced/disposed last time which is exceptionally cheap on past experience. If you're feeling confident use the Internet Del+Fitted prices to bring local places down to a more palatable level.

Drive it until they wear out then replace with matched tyres.

That's what normal people up north would do.

edit - As long as they are all the same size.

How the hell has a 10 month year old car ended up with 4 odd tyres?

I would be more concerned about the history of the vehicle than anything else.

Take it back wouldn't be a bad idea IMO.

It's understandable if it's ex-hire car, people will just want 'A tyre' when they're stuck somewhere in a car that isn't there own. Also its an odd size it probably allowed garages to offload old stock or even offer the drive very limited choice.

On one occasion I couldn't find a tyre for a hire car with 19's so I had to swap the whole car, on another I was lucky that it was only a 16" so I could fit a part worn for £25.

It's an approved used car from a main dealer, in new condition.

I'm fully aware of the history of it too - it was part of Europcar's fleet on a short lease. It was used as a branch manager's company car so not hired to the public. Europcar recorded a change of all 4 tyres just before it was returned to Peugeot group stock.

Given that it's a nearly top of the range car (2.0 HDi Allure Auto) with 8.5k miles, 3 years of warranty and roadside assistance (2 existing and an extension) for 14k, an oddity with tyres is not a concern. Take it back? Lol
