4 Wheel Laser Alignment

That doesn't sound too bad to me. I'm getting 4 new tyres fitted (Already bought) plus a full geo setup for around that price (a little more). There's something quite qwerky with how it's setup at the moment - it's going to be nice to have a proper poised car again. :)

I think a proper geo setup is worth it's weight in gold.

You'll have a job getting castor, camber and so on altered on a 205 because there isn't any adjustability on the car. Not on the front, or the back.

All they can set is the tracking or toe on the front wheels. Anything else is physically impossible. The top mounts have no adjustment, the damper sits in a cup (different to say, a Golf Mk1 which can be adjusted for camber) and cannot move, all other suspension pickups and points are fixed.

The rear suspension has zero adjustability. None. Not a millimiter.

First thought is why on earth are you taking a 15 year old car to a main dealer?

Take it to a proper, reputable tyre specialist, pay less money, get a better job done.

Must say he's got a point. Particularly for tyre work. Back in the days when I used to take the Cinq in for dealer services the dealer didn't even do tyre fitting or wheel alignment, they just farmed the work out to the tyre centre down the road.

Wow - that's a shame. It just shows how well sorted the chassis was then eh?

The 5 has soo much adjustability it's right PITA getting it just right...

It does have it's bonuses. You can change the entire suspension assemblies yourself and not worry about anything bar tracking, which is useful.

Every time my mate does his Golf he has to worry about the camber etc matching on each side of the car. Right pain in the arse.

Heh, I suppose you could adjust rear camber by fitting more or less worn trailing arm bushes :D

My wifes Hyundai Accent had no adjustable geometry on the rear suspension, but that didn't stop a local tyre specialist (with a good reputation) telling me that they had adjusted the rear camber and toe when I took it to have the tyres and tracking done. They even produced a print out showing it had actualy changed, though by a very small amount. Perhaps they use a sledge hammer for these precision adjustments if the manufacturer provides no facility...

Slightly OT but if you have a car with full adjustment like the MX5 then the best place in london is Wheels In Motion run by Tony Bones (yes his real name). He took 2 hours adjusting my 5 and is generally regarded as the best in the business by several owners clubs including MX5 and Lexus. Top bloke, sorted my handling out after the shoddy state it came off the boat in. :D

As it's an older car, you might want to clean up the track rods or whatever they are called before you go. If they need to make changes but end up spending a lot of time trying to get nuts ondone, then you'll get charged appropriately. If you can get all the adjustment bolts freed up before you go then it could save you some cash.

He can see an annoying message which tells him I've posted but that I'm on his ignore list. Which, to be honest, rather defeats the point in having an ignore list but there we go.

I do hope you've not been traumatised for ever by the way I asked why you were going to the main dealer westy :p

LA la la la not listening :D ;)

I hope you never get jury duty!
Off topic a bit, but I did Jury duty a few years back. Had two cases. One was this ***** kid who was flying around on a uninsured motorbike, trying to get away from the cops. Half the jury were thinking of letting him off because he was young, and he'd learned his lesson. I put them straight and made sure we sent him down. Was so boring. The slimey defence solicitor kept trying to get the case thrown out because the police eventually stopped the guy by blocking the road. Apparently that was dangerous, as it could have harmed the little scrote.

The other case was a bit more interesting. Real juicy one. Eventually let the guy off a very serious crime.

Sorry to drag this up..

Due to lack of time on friday, I couldn't get the tracking done. Now, the book settings for my car are 20 toe out, give or take 10. Its currently at 30. SHould I get it set to anything different, or just stick to book settings?
