4 years...:(

we all know the basic truth we are being held back by lower powered consoles debate all you want that is the truth .

until the next gen consoles are out we will still get the mess we are getting now

which is console games disguised as pc games.

the amount of spin put on by the companies that give you these games (ea , activision and so on ) is truly amazing and how they get the pc gamers to swallow it every time they release a half assed unfinished game is beyond me .

i take my hat off to them and there marketing guys cause they are great magicians

I also think graphic improvements are changing in different ways, rather than pure polygon count and massive textures resources are poured into shaders, animation and UI art styles. This is not only due to aging consoles but probably development costs, it will take an artist 4x longer to make a great looking detailed model that still preformed at a decent level.

But see Crysis looked good but was a big pile of crap to play, BF3 looks amazing and is fun to play. Id rather have decent gameplay over graphics any day, Too much fuss is made these days about how nice they HAVE to look.

no they dont... the shaders and lighting in bf3 pees all over crysis

Exactly. Development costs go up and up as games get more advanced, but the sales don't. We're still paying the same £30-50 for games as we did in the 80's when they were coded in bedrooms by 1 or 2 people.

It's reached the point where the majority of A+ releases cannot survive on a single platform because they're not reaching a large enough market. You have a few exceptions such as ARMA2 and Starcraft, however they don't have the usual business model. ARMA2 is supplemented by Bohemia flogging their software to the military, and Blizzard know their games sell consistently for many years, so will eventually make profit.

When a new console comes out developers aren't going to suddenly double the budget for new games. The massive leaps we saw in previous decades are a thing of the past. Things will still progress, but it'll happen much more slowly and will probably be affected more by improvements in the efficency of the coders, rather than the latest cutting-edge technology.

What the hell is that on the lowest possible settings you could find and then upscaled from 720p????????

I thought the same, something isn't right with that screenshot, it leads me to believe he delibrately put Crysis on low to compare the two so he can backup his statement.

bfbc2 is in my op and also has the feel of a pc game unlike bf3 which to me feels console.

You're joking right?

If you seriously think BC2 looks better than BF3, either you need a new PC or you need some glasses.

I also fail to see how BF3 "feels console"

i can play bf3 on ultra and do and crysis and bfbc2 look better overall

look at bf3 it has big chunky graphics but it doesnt have the finer pc edge graphics this is why it looks consoley.

as for that screenshot of crysis rofl about the worst one you could find :p

basically bf3 has been done like crysis 2 just to be allowed so consoles can run it . thats why it feels the way it does.

i like bf3 myself and play every day but the graphics arnt as amazing as some make out.

That Crysis screenshot is from a build a whole year before the game was actually released. Surprised nobody has picked up on this.

That said, BF3 and Crysis are very similar looking games and by extension Crysis 2 looks very similar to BF3 as well in urban/city environments.

I tend to agree with you mate. BF3, whilst I'm enjoying it, is not the revolutionary break through game, that I keep wanting these new titles to be. Me and everyone else. Seems like all these cores and all these Ghz aren't taking us where we'd like to be. Or certainly as quickly as we'd like to get there.

I'm sorry, but you are wrong. BF3 maxed out is a lot better.

the only good crysis shots are the ones blurred to hell

developing for multi platform i.e console and highpowered gaming PCs means you always get the lowest common denominator. In this case they probably coded for platforms to be able to handle it equally to a PC.

I think the over riding factor is the money is in consoles. PC isn't what runs the dollars over. I think I read somewhere that MW3 grossed something like 430 million within a week of launch ? How much of that would have been realised from PC format ? Likely not a lot, don't have stats to hand but it would be interesting to see a breakdown of PS3 v 360 v PC.

I could have course and most likely am talking rubbish as I am not really an expert in this area, but I think developing to the lowest common denominator is definitely a factor here ?
