Thats not that accurate lol.

Need three decimal places tbh, there was a BIG thread on this at POTN and some people could only get 6 others got 7.

Oh and what took you so long to get a 40D eh? :p

I will do another test then! the 2nd test I did was using a stopwatch, the one on my mobile in fact ^_^

As for the question, lots of thought, lots ...and lots LOL!

Edit*

Now updated above with 3 dec places test, looks like ~7.8fps on my Kingston 66x 1GB card. Have ordered a Sandisk Extreme III 4GB for £22 though so will retest when that arrives!

How many AF points do you get on the 40D? Is it getting comparible to 1-series, or still only a few like the xxxD lot?

the 40D only has 9 focusing points yes, but the focusing points are ALL cross type with the centre being diagonal.

Compare this to the 30D/400D which has 9 points, only 1 being cross type and no diagonal, and you see that the focusing system is MUCH better.....on my 30D i only ever used centre, as the others were just ****....on the 40D I can use any of the 9 confidently :)

Nine-point AF sensor with cross sensitivity
The EOS 40D has the same nine focus points we first saw introduced on the EOS 20D however now all points are cross-type (meaning they are sensitive to both horizontal and vertical detail) with lenses of F5.6 or faster. Additionally the center point is now twice as sensitive as any other point with lenses of F2.8 or faster and has cross-type sensors set at forty-five degrees

I also found some CF functions that are of no logical use like rswapping the AE Lock and AF-ON buttons !

This is actually a really important feature tbh :p the Battery grip doesnt have an AF start stop button so if you want to use that button to focus (which I have been for 4 years :p) you need to be able to swap them

Aha yes, grippy people will probably benefit from it, I'm not a grippy as you can probably tell so it never occured to me!

Same as the 400D then? What did the 350d have?

I just done the same as you and got roughly 4fps (4 frames from 46.343 to 47.347, 1600ISO HQ Jpeg).

What do you get in RAW mate? my test was done in RAW, in JPEG the frames just never stop and the buffer never fills!

Very slightly faster in RAW in terms of FPS (0.97s for 4 frames), buffer fills up after only 9 shots though (53+ with Jpeg). This is with a 1gb Ultra II.

Ah cool cool, btw RG you have both 40D and 30D? alright for some ^_^

I've got a 40D and a 20D....but as i'm sure you know the 20d and 30d are basicalyl the same camera bar third stop isos, spot metering and the size of the screen :p I WAS 30D and 20D, but the 30D which holds the value better was sold to fund the 40D :) £92 upgrade is win \o/

I have noticed one really silly thing though, if you enabled High ISO noise reduction in camera your buffer limit goes from 17 in RAW to 6 !! I mean what the ff is all that about!!
Isn't that obvious?
By enabling that feature you are forcing the DIGI 3 processor to perform a heavy additional task to each shot captured forcing the buffer to clog up quicker.

I'd have not expected the buffer to be directly related to the image processor though

Really tempted to sell my 30D, visiting my parents in Portugal at the moment and my mother has a 40D. Gonna have to have a proper go on it, doesnt seem much of an upgrade at first glance.

I have jsut got home and taken a gander at the noise control sample pics and i am amazed at the noise control over the 400D!
must keep my eye out for bargains!
