Hey guys,

Now that i've finished revamping my audio set up and my AV receiver, I think it's time to start thinking about a decent TV! Atm i've got a 32" Panasonic CRT, which whilst is very good for what it is, it just can't compare to the HDTV's that are being churned out now. Also, for the room we have now it is just too small.

I sit about 3m from the screen, and it's in a large room. I've decided that a 46" Would be the best balance. I DEFINITELY want a 1920x1080 res panel.

I'm using it mainly for movies, with a bit of gaming thrown in but nothing major. I assume plasma would be the best for this usage?

After having a quick look around, there seems to be about a 50% premium over 42" for 46", is that about right? Also, how quickly are they dropping in price? It's going to be a couple of months off but I want to know what i need to be saving for :)

PS: AV Receiver is a Denon 4306, so all sources can be upscaled very well in amp to 1080 if they're not already that res, so quality of the scaler is a complete none issue :)
Tom.

Well 46, 1080p, and plasma, one choice atm that has just come out.

The new panasonic 46 PZ85 plasma is ~£1300 at an electronics retailer (not one of the big ones though), using a code 'E4548' and username 'ed save'. But the 42 inch version is £400 less at £900, so ony you can decide whether the the extra 4 inchesis worht the monies.

You seem to know you stuff about plasma, and it is the only choice for films.

Just read you are a few months off, then wait for the new pioneers that will probably be out june/july time, they could be very special indeed, and put the pannys to shame.

The pioneer 9th gen are only 50inch upwards and will be appropriately priced at most likely £3000+ for the 1080p version. The PZ85 or upcoming Panasonic PZ800 would be your best bets.

I have a PZ85 and its a truly amazing set. SD is very good and actually I think its better than my old JVC 100hz CRT. HD is stunning to say the least...Planet Earth is all I'll say. With regards upscaling, I have an 1080p upscaling Panny dvd player and again the quality improvement over 576p has to be seen.
