4770k + maximus VI formula oc advice

8pack says for 4.5ghz 4.2 or 4.3 uncore for performance to cpu ratio.

try these settings for uncore 4.2ghz 1.175v ring voltage with 1.268v vcore for cpu @4.5ghz with load @1.286v

and remember to set LLC @turbo or extreme.

vin voltage has to be 0.4+v higher than vcore so 1.812v is fine.

Chip is a very hot runner guys, fired up p95 just for interest sake yesterday. In seconds the temps shot to 81-90-94-91. That was at 4.5ghz, 1.2625v. Reset to stock speed with optimized defaults in bios. Ran p95 small fft just now.



This was after taking the whole system apart this evening, repasting and mounting the cooler and improving general case airflow. Normally i wouldnt run something like p95, but this chip is almost as hot at stock as my 3770k was at 4.5ghz on 1.340 vcore.
 
Those 4770ks don't half run hot. You could probably delid and get 4.7 out of it! Is this using CLU on the IHS too?!
 
Clu on the ihs again this evening illuz, was close to attempting a delid earlier. Searched high and low but couldnt find a suitable blade. Temps at stock under 100% load are much higher than ive seen many other users getting. Still using the k2 with dual 1900 rpm akasa piranha fans.
 
Jeez that chip is giving the k2 a beating eh! If you need some razors I found some good ones cheap in the rainforest...
 
It certainly is mate, tbf in games at stock the highest temp was 57c with bf3. Yesterday running 3dm11 at 4.5ghz the max was 67c for a brief moment or two in the physics and combined tests. Ill see about picking up a few blades from a store this week. I have some at work, but theyre stanley knife and snap off types that we use for trimming wallpaper. Not sure if theyd be suitable?

Something is wrong with your thermalpaste or heatsink....
this is after 15+ minutes usualy after 10 minutes i can max out the heat in my i7 with prime95 lol

1.268v bios
4.5ghz
4.2ghz uncore
2133 XMP memory @CL9

temps are pretty good....

Your delided though,
Im not, lol, this is on air noctua d14 with diamond ic thermal paste, seems i have a cool running chip :D just imagine what i would get delided.
quick Q though if i did in the future delid, whats stopping my d14 crushing my core :/ lol

did i also mention its silent? ;)

you may not get as good benefit delidding than someone with a 'hot' chip. also when you delid, the cooler plays a larger role as heat is more efficiently transmitted to it.

hot chip generally means worse thermal paste application under the IHS. so that advantage is lost when you delid anyway

also ram speed makes a huge temperature difference. around 10 degrees on mine between 1600 and 2400/2666
 
Not sure tbh, mine hits similair temps to yours at stock in a matter of seconds. Three times ive reseated the cooler now. Paste used was a syringe of liquid ultra that i bought from ocuk a few weeks ago, (same time as the mobo). The cooler was working grand on a 3770k prior to this setup.

Hi mate, could be your chips ihs is not as good as the chip i have or i have a cooler running chip.
or might be the ihs is not flat on your chip ???
 
I've got a 4770k, Z87X-D3H, 8GB G.Skill Ares 1866 and a K2 cooler. When I've finished reading up on overclocking Haswell (Only overclocked an AMD64, C2D and a i7 920) I will see how far I can push the CPU before I run into stability/heat issues!

The K2 caused me to lose a PCI-E slot which was being used to house the rather excellent Xonar D2X so if I don't get 4.4GHz I'll be a bit miffed. Previous CPU was a 920 @ 4.2GHz so at stock the 4770k doesn't feel all that fast.
 
Curios as to what type of glue is used to hold the ihs in place. From seeing pics/videos, it's not unlike black building sealant. I dont have access to a vice so ill try the hair dryer to soften the glue, cut one corner with the blade then do the rest with a plastic takeaway lid.
