4770k + maximus VI formula oc advice

Getting 0x124 bsod errors in bf3 this evening, (first time ive played in a few days). Previously the cpu was running fine in this game. Only changes ive made since that was to up the ram speed to 2133mhz, 9-10-10-21, 1.55v. Havent touched the sa or io voltages. Iirc 0x124 can be either vcore ore vtt related. Uncore at 4200mhz, 1.175v.

on my setup 0x124 was stabalizied by adding cpu VRIN voltage, and for 4.7ghz and 4.3ghz uncore VRING voltage is 1.27v

Cheers guys, ill have a further play about when i get back from work later. Going by the 4 way optimizer setting display. Voltages are.

cpu digital i/o, 1.021
cpu analog i/o, 1.021
sa, 0.832
cpu cache, 1.195

Set the following virus.

Above you said to set vrin to 1.860v, vrin on this board is cpu cache. When set to this it was showing up in red as being extremely high. I/O voltages were on auto, so ive raised both 3 notches.

very strange, there is usually a voltage setting in there that is higher than your cpu vcore
if its indeed the cache voltage as in vrin voltage then it has to be set higher than your vcore voltage by a factor of 4....

so say your vcore is at 1.250v
your vrin would be set to 1.650v but i like to go a little higher than that
example vcore @1.260v for 4.5ghz with vrin set to 1.840-1.860v ranges.

perfectly safe but for some reason i dont see that setting in your bios and if indeed vrin is cache voltage then even if its red its fine being higher than your vcore by a factor of 4 though you better check with 8 pack as i do not want to blow up your cpu lol
Your cpu voltage and system agent and digital ao and io are fine. its strange your vrin is named cache or that its way under your cpu vcore.

When i manually entered 1.86v in cache, it showed up in red straight away. Took an awful lot of pressing of the - key to lower it lol. Ive seen 8 Pack reccomend 1.25v ono on cache in a few other threads.

Still getting the same crash in bf3 with the above changes.

his recommendation for was for 1.250v is not for that it was for vring. with a 1.225v for vcore @4.5
some cpus can do that some cant and its much harder depending on quality of imc with 4 dims.
his recommendation for vrin is unclear but most people can get those clocks with default vrin, but if your wanting more stability upping vrin can help...

EDIT: yeah i see now your board is weird lol why cant all board manufacturers stick to the same god dam names lol

Something is wrong with your thermalpaste or heatsink....
this is after 15+ minutes usualy after 10 minutes i can max out the heat in my i7 with prime95 lol

1.268v bios
4.5ghz
4.2ghz uncore
2133 XMP memory @CL9
----------------------

temps are pretty good....

off topic.... what is the cool windows start bar/button you are using. it looks well :o)

This is my recomended.

Cache 1.2 - 1.35 For 42 Uncore 1.25 shoudl be fine.
SA 1.2
IOD 1.2
IOA 1.2
PCH 1.2

VCCIN 1.9

Nothing at 2.25v etc etc thats an LN2 setting!!!
Are those the max you reccomend on air cooling 8 Pack? If so ill give them a try.

Agree virus, the different terms for settings can be confusing. Im used to asus boards and their bios going back to c2d/q days. But tbh im still a bit of a noob when it comes to overclocking memory. Tbh, at stock 1600mhz with tight timings and 42x uncore, this chip is rock solid in bf3 at 4.5ghz. But i love to tweak, and tbh stock speed on any component is wrong. Stock dont rock.

Set all youve mentioned to 1.2 and disabled svid, regarding vccin. The only option for this was in the tweakers paradise sub menu of ai oc. This ive set to the 1.9 youve reccomended. Will try a few games later to see how things fare.

Much more stable after making the reccomended changes 8 Pack, previously bf3 was crashing after 10 mins ono. Played a quick round just now. 20 mins in game and the round ended without any problems. Ill give it a more solid workout tomorrow when i have a bit more time.
