4770K - The CPU that just keeps on giving!

Same here, i7 4770k @ 4.2ghz, and when pushing 3440 x 1440 Destiny 2 stays above 60fps 99% of the time with the occasional dip below but mostly staying around 90fps. I don't feel the drop to 60fps so much as I'm using Gsync. Destiny 2 maxed out, rendering at 100%. Still going strong.

4790K at 4.5 and 2993Mhz DDR3 memory and its not hit an issue yet coupled with a 1080.... was going to shift to 8XXX but didn't see point in the end.

I am still pretty happy with what I have. Only things to update would be a large M.2 drive and maybe a 10 series GPU end of next year till I do a full build in 2020 ish. Trying to make build cycles to around 5-6 years now due to such high costs.

I recall people generally being unimpressed with the 4770k when it launched. It was very hot, wouldn't overclock very well compared to the 3770k, and in general wasn't much of an improvement. OCUK sold them with a corsair h100i cooler so you could have a chance of getting a decent overclock, which is how I got mine. Having said that, it is still quite happy playing games at 60fps with a 390x at generally high settings and I certainly can't justify an upgrade! It just didn't have the wow factor when I changed from an AMD x2 5200+ to an i7 860.

My 4790k is at 4.5 and as it's going to take a platform upgrade to push on, I simply can't justify it at the moment.

Maybe if Ram falls in price.

Yeah they certainly weren't earth shattering when they came out but they just about tipped it over the edge for those of us still on highly clocked late Core 2 Quads and early i7s who struggled to justify upgrading to the 3000 series, etc.

Here here. Still going strong at 4.5ghz. The only games that it has 100% on are AC Origins and Planet Coaster, but I still see little need to upgrade. I bought it on advice here to upgrade my Q9550 and it is still serving me well.

3770k here...purchased in 2012 thought about upgrading a while ago but decided against it as the cost vs performance increase just doesn't seem worth it...payed just over £250 for it, thought it was expensive at the time but running since 2012 what a great buy...compaire it to phones from 2012!

Heck, 3.5 years later my 4690K at 4.7GHz is still going strong. It is limited by the lack of hypertheading (BF1 maxes it out for example) but for most games it's perfectly adequate, especially at 1440p/144hz and 4K/60hz. I briefly considered going for a second hand 4770K/4790K but for the price I'd rather pay another £200 for a Ryzen system.

Even my 2600k is doing me well. I'm nowhere near to the point of thinking it's desperate for an upgrade. 4.8ghz and sticks around 62c it's a brilliant chip. Will be a good 2 years before I do a full system upgrade.

i7-3770k @ 4.6Ghz / T'Grizzly Kryonaut / Noctua NH-D14
Gigabyte Z77-D3H / 16GB Corsair Vengeance Pro @ 1866MHz
Crucial 480GB / Zotac AMP! Extreme Core GTX 1080Ti / Corsair RM750X

Spec above. So guessing there is no point me upgrading any time soon then? I play all my games at 4K on my Samsung KS7000 TV in my lounge. I only use my rig for games and as a media center. To be honest, it runs all what I throw at it flawless. Maybe a few games in which I might need to nudge a few settings down, but very rare.

I came to take a look on where my future upgrade plans would lead me and found this topic which has seemed to answer all my questions lol.

Is there any time scale on when a CPU will be out which will be a biggg performance gain for gamers and be a worthy upgrade? Seems atm you can throw a few grand on a new build and get exactly the same gaming performance as a top system (Other than GPU) from 2012?

Depends on what you'd call a big performance gain, however I'd maybe reckon the 2019 Zen iteration or potentially Intel's 8 Core i7s. (This is when i am currently planning to upgrade anyways)

If you're looking for something along the lines of a 100% increase in FPS in games just from a CPU upgrade, you could be waiting another 4 or 5 years, who knows. :P

Next year i will look at benchmarks for mine too because this beast kept giving i can upgrade elsewhere. I have mine at 4300 with 2400 1t ram and i guess im going to find out if 240hz is an ask too much because thats where i spent the upgrade money a few days ago.

Another year would be great too though. I could put in an optane ssd next too i have a NVMe bios for mine too which is amazing.

Currently my 4790k is sitting avx stable at 4,7ghz and 1.24 volts which i'm very satisfied with. It schews through anything gaming and my limited productivity requirements(started coding c sharp). Overall pretty happy with it. Of course i would love a 12-16 core ryzen beast but money nor need at this point allows it . But lets not be kidding ourselves.. If only need was in the way i would have upgraded long ago :P.

Quite the chip i need 1.252v in bios for 4300 on core and uncore. So i pegged the nirthbridge chip at 4300 as well. If you have fast ram on these you still get great performance you really notice a really large dip in fps when the bios randomly reset the ram back to 1600mhz one time. So if you are able to do this really... do it and sit back until 2019.
