4790k idling at 60c and CPU throttling in AIDA when XMP set (2400c11)

Right I'm in a much better place now.

With memory at 1333 I'm idling as low as 22c and AIDA FPU is hovering around 60c after 20 mins. One core went near 70 for a bit but this is obviously miles better.

I do need to do a lot more digging though as here is what initially happened after fitting the h60:

Went to windows and saw idles of 40ish and then realised the XMP was on.

Went to bios then turned XMP off and temps spiralled out of control quickly.

Reset cmos, went to bios and temps were immediately 54 and rising.

Loaded optimised defaults and that's where I am at now...60c ish in AIDA FPU.

Baffling me a bit to be honest.

don't know why but xmp seems to be screwing the system, with it off set your memory voltage manually and run at 1333.

if that seems to run ok you could try 1660 and see if that carries on ok.

i wouldn't bother with xmp for the time being and see if the issues re occur.

I've started another thread now because all our talk seems like I've wasted your time

I now have a system that can only be cooled by being slept and awoken from within windows.
