4790k to 10400f for 4k gaming?

With a 2080 ti I'd personally step up to the 10600k rather than a 10400F.

The 104 will give you a modest uplift, maybe 3-15%. With 106 (or 116) you'll be looking at a 10-30% uplift, which in my opinion is more worthwhile of an upgrade.
Honestly I'd be concerned that you'd still not be taking full advantage of the 2080 ti in all titles.

Thanks, but that's starting to go down the road of building a new system where I was considering getting more value out of stuff I already have.
I've also got a 10700k and 3090FE. I'm leaning towards putting the 2080ti back in with the 10700k and selling the 3090 while the prices are inflated and parting out the older PC less a few bits I want to keep.

I just went rtx 3070 with a 5820k to a 5600x..

Hasnt exactly set my world on fire at 1440p lol.

:) Trouble is we're now in a world of incremental updates. I broke my own rule going 2080ti to 3090 of not buying anything unless it has twice the real world performance. I like playing though . Pretty sure I have the bits to do a bitchin' Q6600 and Athlon X2 4800. Maybe I should play with the bits I have rather than add to the pile.

It's up to you my dude, for sure the 10700k would be a better fit for either the 2080ti and 3090 and a 10400F. The bottom line is whether you need 2 computers then I guess?

From what I've heard you're probably good with the 4790k+2080ti system along side the 10700k+3090 system.

I'm tending towards 2080ti and 10700k, buying a NAS and mesh router and getting out of the rest. I'm swapping parts tomorrow, we'll see.
