4850 woes

a reboot and sriver sweeper sorted that out, and i installed 8.7s with hotfixes for the 4 series, but nothing.

IICR GRID at that should be doing about 40-50

spoke to soon. when i turned that off, and played grid again, grid stayed at 20fps, and now cod4 is back to 20 aswell :(

i will wait for the 8.8 finals, and if nothing, MM is getting a new toy, and ill go back to my 2900GT, and wait for a price drop on the GTX260

You could just return it for a rufund, then get a GTX 260, same price... if it's not working properly you should be able to. I've returned so many cards lately and had no probs getting my money back.

Try installing JUST the display driver. Also turn off AA and AF and see what frame rates you get. Could just be a bug with AA/AF and those games.

this is going to sound wierd but, turnign AF and AA off reduced my frames by about 10FPS

i think i need to get my refund, and then save up for a GTX260

have you checked the card temps? It's entirely possible that you have got a duff card. Btw your OP says fresh install of vista 64...you do have SP1 installed right?

At stock i get well over 90fps average in CoD4 MP...1680x1050 everything maxed and 8xAA 16xAF....overclocked its 100-110+.

You have 30% more pixels to render at 1920x1200 so theoretically you should still be getting above 60fps.

same fps roughly as gurusan at 1600x1200 same settings.temp about 75-80 not changed fan settings.for your res i wouldnt use a 4850 either a 70 or same nvidia card.

mmm, i put all setting to low, with same res, i still get the same frames, and putting the res down to 1680, i gain 10fps, all on low.

i am sure this has to be a hardware fault.

Try running 3dmark06 or vantage see what that turns up. At that resolution i would be running a 4870 or gtx260. If grid and call of duty are the games you like playing i think the 4870 is the faster card in those games especially in grid.

is it free?

id agree, but money was a bit tight. and i needed to buy a better card than my 2900GT :D

still, even so, the 4850 shoudl easily handle cod4.

esp on all low but res. yet i get around 20 fps.
