4850 woes

ok odd. i tired the 2900GT again same frames. i tried my old 2GB ram, same frames, and i tried 32bit vista, once again same frames :(

cpu-z reports my cpu (E2140) at 3.35, BUT vista reports it at 1.6GHz (stock)


could it be a CPU problem?
 
Yes of course it is then start from square one. Did you overclock the ram too?

Go do that now go reset the bios.
 
wow, a cmos reset worked for vista recognising my new Oc. after it reset i OCed a little from 1.6 to an easy 3. and vista recognises it. let me try cod4 out :)

worked fine with my hd2900gt where i was getting around 15 fps (to be expected), so only 5fps added on?

tried 8.6, 8.6 hotfix, 8.7 beta, 8.7s, 8.8beta and 8.6 ad 8.7 dna drivers

With the system quoted in the sig, I get 91.0fps (seems to be maxed out at that number for some reason) at 1600x1200 4x 16x all max, texture manual to max on vista 64 ultimate.

I suggest you reset all settings from steam console (-autoconfig IIRC) and then try the settings again.

EDIT: ahh just saw the problem with CPU-Z and windows frequency reporting discrepancy...

Reset everything in BIOS and then try again perhaps? Make sure PCI-E is around 100MHz or so. Put everything to stock and see if it works.

ok with 0.2.7 i get this:

and when gaming the clocks do go up, and they dont drop, untill i get back into vista.

the thing is, its the same for my 2900GT which worked perfectlyuntill i got my 4GB geil black dragons, and 4850.

should i RMA the mobo?
 
What a bizzare problem.

Maybe a PSU problem?

So to sum it up so far:

You have re installed windows?
Tried diffo hard drives?
Tried diffo ram and all sticks one by one?
Reset the bios?
checked all cables?

I really dont know what it could be, so the 2900GT dont work anymore if you put it in? that slow in games too?
 
That is extremely puzzling...could be any number of things really cpu/mobo/memory/psu. Process of elimination really.
