4870 1gb + cod4 = lag.

is this common that 4870 just dont cope well in cod4 im getting a lot of lag spikes while online, which i didnt get before with the 8600 gts.
i wonder if my amd 4800 @ 3 ghz just not cutting it at a rez of 1400 x 900.

Definitely not the card mate less you've got driver issues. My 8800GTS averages about 100 FPS in COD4 at that res. Might be a network/server issue? Unless you've got a weak CPU etc.?

yea i thought it could be a network but when i had my 8600 gts hooked up only lag i got was at around 11pm cause BT caps my bandwidth to 20kbs for about 30 mins :/

What is your system specs? and how long have you had the 4870 for? have you used driver sweeper to get rid of the nvidia drivers completely?

Is your connection via a USB/internal device rather than through an external device to which you connect over ethernet?

If it's USB/internal, there is every chance that when your CPU gets overloaded (possibly feeding the new, much faster card), your network turns to poo, because you've not got a real modem, but rather something that depends on complex drivers to force modem functionality out of what is basically a cheap sound chip.

i use driver sweeper in safe mode always when uninstalling drivers.

the connection is directly to modem to wall socket, i didnt get this lag this bad before the 4870, unless my system is starting to show its age i've not upgraded in about 6-7 years. only just had enough money to get the 4870 this week

You're suffering from a CPU bottlneck, it can't push data to the GPU fastest enough and hence the lag. If that's a single core.

yeah the CPU seems a little old and yes its single core

have you got vsync enabled if so disable it

what settings in game

any cvars commands added in game.

Sounds like it's showing 2D clocks, what happens when you minimize a game and load up GPUZ?

A single core 3700 at 2.6Ghz used to bottleneck my X1950XT, so of course it's going to bottleneck a much faster card like a 4870. Which is why it's laggy, he has an issue with really low minimum frame rates, the classic sign of a CPU bottleneck when using a fast card.

haven't treid that yet. I will try that now acturly not that hard, its still sohwing 750 clock but the acutral seems a little down I mean what the hell

there is a switch on my rampage not sure what it does so i leave alone can't find manual, does anyone know what this switch on the rampage formular is for :confused:

should I use it for Xfire ? or something otherwise I see no point in it

i'd customized my config, im getting 250fps but spikes a lot even thou it drop below 90fps

What settings are you running the game at? Have you tried running with max AA&AF and everything on high to give the GPU more work to do?

If that doesn't work, then would try removing the drivers using driversweeper etc and trying to install them again.

my setting are on ultra low for smoothness and better hit reg 1400 x 900, as i play in ladders etc CB, i series.

Are you one of those people who require like 125FPS+? What is your current FPS, download fraps and get it to show a log of your max/min/avg FPS whilst playing
