having 8800GTX with 768MB vRAM, im thinking 512MB may not be enough for the future.

im those people who cannot live without AA you see, so 4xAA is considered low for me, as long as there's the option, i'll turn on 16xQCSAA.
and we all know AA eats memory for breakfirst.

so anyone know whether a 1GB GDDR5 version of 4870 is comming?

also, what's the highest AA option in ATI cards?
as i understand from my x1650pro experience, ATI cards only do 4xAA in most games, only nVidia cards can do 16xQCSAA. or am i completely wrong?

The 4870 can do 4+ xMSAA with considerably less of a hit than the 8800 GTX. In-fact, it probably takes the least hit of any GPU architecture out there right now.

I'm sure architecture efficiency has as much to do with it as memory itself. That said, I believe Samsung are the only one's manufacturing GDDR5 right now. And seeing as how these cards are selling out in many places, and a new 4870 X2 with 2GB GDDR5 is on it's way, I'd assume there are manufacturing constraints which would put either a delay on the 1GB cards, or a shortage. Which could mean sillier prices.

so what's the highest AA setting available in Devil May Cry 4?
and what's the highest AA setting in HL2 engine? 24x?

so 4870 1GB very soon.
perfect upgrading time: Abit iP45 Pro + 4870. :D

ddr5 seems to be quad pumped, so like regular ddr you double the speed to get its final speed, with ddr5 you quadruple the base speed to get the final speed. e.g:

900mhz ddr5 on the 4870 has final speed of 3600mhz (900 x 4)

ddr4 is like regular ddr memory , its speed is multiplied by 2 to get its final speed.

ddr4 does run faster and cooler than ddr3 and the 3870 used the ddr4 for more bandwidth and less power consumption.

no idea why ddr4 is not being used this time round.

Prob because it's a bit like DDR3, too high latencies for the increased megahertz. Another consideration is that it doesn't offer enough bandwidth for the ultra cheap 256-bit bus they are now using, so went with GDDR5 to see them through this cheap card phase.

that price actually looks reasonable.

think about it, 4870 don't take much hit in AA, so you'll want to enable it as high as possible. and with current games filling up 512MB. 1GB with ultra high AA while the GPU is still able to push out good framerates.

so with AA enabled, this 1GB 4870 should be able to beat or on par with gtx280

£55 for the extra ram (which likely will have very little effect on performance) is a bit much. I might just stick with the 512mb version tbh.

I'm sure that the difference will drop a couple of weeks after launch!
