Ok, so what are my options for an air cooler for this? Just want to get the card running otherwise I'm on a x1650pro that isn't even mine lol. (Preferably 2nd hand options). I would settle for a standard cooler, but they don't seem 'that' good??

Background:
I have a XSPC watercooled Powercolor 4870x2 2GB I bought from here, it unfortunately had 1 surface mounted capacitor detached in transit by one leg. I managed to 'badly' solder it back on once, and put it back in the box. Whilst showing my nephews the board I knocked it completely off the board because the solder job wasn't good enough d'oh. (and my mother decided to come round and clean my house whilst I was away and moved everything around... so it could have been knocked off then grr).

So I firstly need to get the capacitor put back on (can't be that hard, just fiddly, nothing wrong with board as such.)
 
AFAIK the only cooler available for the 4870X2 was by Arctic Cooling, but I can't find it on their website.
 
So that's the only aftermarket cooler, bar the one's that came with the card :( D'oh. Will have to keep my eyes peeled.

Very annoying as most of the one's I have seen come attached to the cards lol.
 
Have you tested the card since the cap was knocked off? Sometimes they aren't essential in the running of the card, worth a try?

As for the cooler, well you might be able to pick up a damaged 4870x2 from somewhere and salvage the cooler from it..finding a new one will be quite the task!
 
I don’t have a watercooling loop to check it. But I did VERY VERY quickly check that it brought up windows to the login screen, then turned off immediately, and all seemed fine.

I need an air cooler because I don’t have the watercooling lol.
 
It might get a bit expensive though, for just the cooler.

I had a stock 4870X2 a while back, and it wasn't bad. Didn't get too noisy at all, although was fairly warm (85c or so) under load.

Yup, a little pricey for just a cooler, with 5 days to go, you just know it will go for daft money even though it's broken. Thanks for the link :-)
 
Found a new one A/C accelore 4870x2, but £39.95 (+ £4 delivery). Ouch. :-(

Ah that's good. Glad you found some stock somewhere. Yeah I doubt they'll mind as it's a discontinued card but it has served its purpose so I will remove anyway :)
 
Unlikely to get it though.. might have to sell the waterblock first.

EDIT: If anyone does know where to get one cheaply, i'd very much appreciate it!! :-)

I've got a Accelero Xtreme on my 4870x2 and i'm very happy with my temps/ noise. I've got my original heatsink in a draw somewhere, i'd be prepared to send it to you for the price of P&P if you want?

If it's all good will look to get an accelero afterwards.

Just another quick question on the VRM issue's with accelero's. Is it possible to get a heat sink onto the VRM to keep them cooler along with the accelero?
