4930K benchys early look. Conclusion.. Meh.

I think 2 or 3 years into this console generation will see more users migrate to the PC. There isn't the hype there one was with console gaming.

Yeah the older the console gamers get they will gravitate towards PC. I like the fact that even the consoles 'have more exclusives' argument can't be used anymore :p. Check out the Xbox 360 exclusives for 2013 below :p

Personally I think haswell-e will be the big one people might like.

I'm moving from a Retina macbook to w3680 with a 1920x1080 monitor and I really can't see myself upgrading that just yet. Especially after I had a look at the Anandtech CPU bench

I think you could be right about haswell-e being the next big release from intel for enthusiasts , DDR4, eight cores would be a big draw for me.

The same for me, and I suspect others as well.

I really look forward to seeing what haswell-e brings in terms of performance. I just hope that Broadwell is a huge jump in performance in all areas, as I'm not fussed with IGP performance. I'll take a dedicated GPU for video editing, and gaming any day of the week.

I would take this with a pinch of salt

3970x using 3000mhz memory, I don't think so lol.:D

It is rather suspect, but you never know :p

They might be you know, the latency is so high, the firestrike bench is actually slower on the Ivy....

I own a 3970x and there is no chance of the IMC on it getting anywhere near 3000mhz lol, the best it can do is around 2540mhz iirc. Of my other SB-E hexcores the 3960x is good for around 2500mhz and the 3930k can reach 2600mhz on the 125 strap. I don't think I can remember 8 Pack getting much more than 2600mhz with SB-E either.

Having said that you never know.

3000Mhz RAM on a 39x I don't think so.
Mine cant do it, they stop at 2500-2600 and that isn't stable only good for benches.

2133 is good and 2400 is doable but not long term stable for me.
I get errors during long encoding sessions.

Something else that strikes me, on the list of multiplier games the ones not on PC are GTA5 (which we all know will be eventually) and a bunch of fighting games (a genre which doesn't work on PC anyway).

Sorry, what I was trying to say is that maybe the RAM is running at 3000MHZ on the IVY-E rig only and that is why the firestrike bench is slower than on the SB-E rig, he is having to run the RAM at looser timings/higher latency. This benefits some of the other benchmarks but gets shown up on Firestrike as it likes tighter timings...?

Orangey 1000f is still less than a good gaming rig that will be outdated in 2 years...

Its bit sad that we probably experienced best CPU Generation that was ever made aka Sandy Bridge.
With AMD so much behind intel does not need to do anything than small changes each year. And when AMD finally will catch up what will Intel do ??
Put more cores heh..

I can bet that people that got 6core sandys doing 5ghz will be using them for next 2-3 years.

A TV worth buying is gonna be £500 bare minimum, they don't put the decent tech in anything under 40" you know. Then you have PS4, cost of the stuff Sony won't bundle, games, DLC wallet pillaging (pay to win console mindset), adds up to easily over £1000.

The whole reason consoles overtook PC's in popularity in the 90's was because they were cheaper, as they have increased in price over the years it sort of offsets that now.

I'm kind of conflicted now wither to buy a 4930K or pick up a cheap 3930K, depends how well the IB-E's overclock I guess.

From all the reviews I have read its not as high as the 3930k so any ipc gains are offset/reduced. Basically the overclocking doesnt look very impressive.

Yeah, it sucks as an upgrade.

Thanks Intel for saving me a monkey.

I don't understand what is holding back the OCs. It is a soldered lid is it not? Is it heat? If the latter, then the better cooled systems should do well. Many of us can achieve 5+GHz on SB-E without too much effort. Up to 4.9GHz takes less than 1.39V in mine.
