4G vs 8G

4GB is perfect for me, I've got the RAM monitoring widget on my desktop, and I haven't seen it ever use ram more than 66% even when multi tasking between different apps.

Is it worth getting 8G of ram with a new Win7 64bit version? I have been told it likes to have 6Gb but I dunno if it is worth the extra cost or not? Am I likely to see any better performance with 8G over 4G? I will not be doing ****loads of video conversions etc. Mostly playing games.

Ill be using an I5 2500k a GTX 580 and a 120G SSD.

I have 8GB 888mhz ram, 4x2GB for a couple of years now. It seems working very well even today. I work with imaging programs, web stuff, videos all sorts, and I have no hiccups :)

32bit OS cant recognise 4GB anyway. Should be using x64 if you are using more than 3GB I reckon (depending on graphics memory).

Exactly, if you have a 32bit OS you'll only be using 3.5Gb or even 3Gb of RAM so you should be using 64bit anyhow. And for those who mentioned 32bit OEM copies of Windows and having to buy 64bit? eh?

It doesn't matter what version of the OS you install out of 32bit or 64bit. Your *license* covers you for both. If you only have a 32bit DVD then obtain a 64bit DVD, I'll leave it to the imagination to figure out where from. It's the license on the sticker of your machine that counts, not the media you install it from.

I'd get 6 or 8Gb of RAM. It's hardly overkill in this day and age

Hi mate, personally i would look at a 2x4GB kit, i went from 4GB to 8GB and noticed my games running better i.e. GTA IV etc. This is the kit i'd go for as it is currently at a great price:

i believe that is incorrect, only the RETAIL product key works on both 32 and 64 bit OS, the oem key will only work on the version it came with. but if this has changed then i appologise.
