4k at medium settings vs 1400p at ultra?

I disagree, the image quality(to me at least) is way superior 4k @ 28" vs 1440p @ 27" - For the OP though I would still recommend 1440 at Ultra if the alternative is turning down settings. 4K is just too many darn pixels to push :p

Yeah, that's the problem with 4K. You need sick hardware and to be constantly upgrading as newer games at 4K will keep being more taxing.

As you should well know a Titan X will cope with most games on high or ultra at 4K.

There is a few games now that a single TX won't play maxed at 1400p and games are not going to get any easier to run in the future...which is where I'm going to want to be using it :)

Andy's point is a bit exaggerated but IMO you don't really fully do 4K justice on a 28" screen - games that really come into their own at 4K like Elite Dangerous, racing games, etc. benefit hugely from a big big screen around 40" or so. Personally I didn't gel with 4K for a lot of games - only having 60Hz didn't help - but I felt more comfortable playing a lot of keyboard/mouse games at 2560x1440 - and while everyone will have different tastes if I was a controller player I wouldn't bother with 28" for 4K games but go straight to something bigger.

Dont understand why everyone saying you need a larger screen for 4k, looks amazing on my 24" dell.

This, don't get the nonsense that to appreciate 4K you have to have huge screens, I had 27"@1080p and thought that looked great when others said it was crap, now I have 3840X2160 @28" and the difference is stunning. Also all this other nonsense that 60Hz is no good, not everyone plays super fast fps, I'm perfectly happy with 4K@60Hz thank you very much. Also get 4K and you can also go back to 1440p and even 1080p as I find it scales very well and looks great on my monitor and when hardware catches up you have 4K. Been waiting to see how Fury/X does with 4K but I'm not convinced one will do me for my setup, cant afford X2 crossfire and don't want the hassle that entails with Amd, so probably gonna skip this lot, hell anyway there is no stock of FuryX, shambles from Amd to be honest and like another on this forum I am slowly being pulled towards the dark side and I squarely blame AMD for this and I will never forgive them if I turn.:mad:

I get where you are coming from and given the choice I would take that 40" Philips 4K screen over the other options any day!

I don't however feel that the PPI on a 28" is "too high" for me when gaming (99% keyboard and mouse). Going back to the 27" 1440p screen makes things look a bit pixelated by comparison. Think I'll get it plugged back in for while as primary as see how it feels. :p

In hindsight though I would not have bought the 4K screen though and just stuck to my 1440p as the framerate hit is too high. Maybe the next gen GFX cards will sort that as I can't really justify buying a couple of Ti cards right now.

I'm not saying you can't appreciate 4K on a smaller screen by the way but neither do I think its the most optimal way to experience the resolution - however everyone's usage is a little different.

After a lot of testing between a 21:9 panel, ROG Swift and 28" 4K I ended up going with the Swift for my main use.

4k deffo it looks amazing even on medium settings. You should get high on certain games and then it will look amazing.

For the odd game that is unplayable at 4k i just down the res to 1440p and its looks perfectly fine.

Decide which is better for yourselves.:)
