Start of the new year I'm going to hand down my current gaming PC to my son, he's on xbox currently but needs something for school homework too so twisted his mum into letting him have a gaming PC to combine both
Also means I get the excuse of an upgraded set up :D

Would ideally be looking for something suitable for 4K and would want the spec to include a 32" 4K monitor (preferably OLED)

Dont currently have a budget so will consider all builds without going too extreme

Any help would be appreciated as its been a few years since I built my current one

I’ve got an ultrawide at the moment but wanted to go for 4k instead

Nice looking spec, what does the 9070 XT compare to against the nvidia cards?
Great value for that oled I'll look at others in a bit.

The 9070xt compares to a 5070ti in performance but being £100 cheaper, Nvidia better ray tracing and upscaling the and so depends where you want to fall

Read reviews and comparisons is wise.

Alternative build, went M-ATX as that's a preference of mine.

Also aimed for a 2.5K spec as that's probably around the sweet spot without pushing for a 5090 build.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £2,535.70 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Shuffled some things around, the 5080 isn't great value wise but if you're gaming at 4K every little helps.

Dropped down to a 7500X3D, at 4K the CPU tends to matter less, however there are still games which love the extra L3 cache offered in X3D processors even at high resolutions so it should work out pretty well.

The RAM may not run at the 6400 speeds listed, but with how little choice there is right now it's one of the better value sets, worst case you should be able to dial in 6000/c30 manually without any problems.

The AOC AG326UD seems a decent option for the price and has the same panel as the more expensive GIGABYTE MO32U

Lol I just noticed @Gray2233 got it in his build , nice one.

Both AOC and Phillips are excellent choices for OLED without a premium, companies tend to all use the same panels anyway.

I actually own a a variant of the Phillips Ultrawide @mickyflinn mentioned earlier and love it, roughly a year since buying the thing so I'm very happy to recommend giving those brands a chance. Until the likes of MSI/Gigabyte etc started branching out heavily AoC was actually seen as a go-to for gaming monitors.

Yes the 2 you mentioned seem be excellent value for money and when your spending over £400 makes a lot of sense as I'm a tight arse :D

Be looking hard into the Philips monitors lately and they also seem to shine especially the larger screns, was gonna reccomend the Philips 49" ultrawide ;)

Reviews of the AOC look really good, may be something I go for. I've got a 32" Ultrawide but really want to go back to 4K, especially for gaming - will either sell the one I have to pay for some of my upgrades or pass over to my lad to use

Just thinking but my current spec is below if there is anything within this worth migrating over to an upgraded spec for me and then transferring the remaining over to my son:

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
TeamGroup Vulcan 64GB DDR5 PC5-48000 6000Mhz
Asus TUF B650-Plus Mobo
Aerocool L240 Mirage CPU cooler
1 x 1TB and 1 x 2TB WD Black M2 SSD
Corsair RM750e PSU
Zotax RTX 4070TI
Corsair 4000D Case

The main bits I'd like to upgrade on are the graphics card and case but open to other areas that would be an improvement - I like the Lian Li DAN Cases or Fractal Design North Charcoal Black with the wooden effect.

I like the antec flux case .

Your 4070ti is about 5070 level of performance so I'd say a 5080 is a decent uplift .

Thanks, will take a look

With regards monitors, on the 4K - the AOC AG326UD sounds good from reviews I've read and its a nice price. The Asus XG32UQ is on offer too at the moment from a higher price - is there much between these?

The AG326UD is an oled monitor while the Asus XG32UQ has an IPS panel .

the aoc agon is a qd oled screen, the asus is an ips screen. Personally I'd take oled all day long if gaming..though depending on where the screen is depends on whether go woled or qd oled. Got a qd oled tv...in living room during day when light floods in the screen has a pink tint..you don't see it when tv is on, but the inky blacks aren't there as the screen diffuses the light but at a cost of contrast...in dark room not a problem
I'm using lg woled c4 tv's as my monitors..they have high gloss finish and are inky black no matter what...downside is they are reflective, but I'm just carefful where I put my lights etc
best of both worlds now are the new tandem woled which use a dual layer woled display which go far brighter..you want the new 4th gen screen though..asus do the 4th gen (make sure 4th gen, far superior to 3rd gen and cheaper also) 27" 1440p for £550 odd ..they do a 4k version as well in 32".. trying to remember details..will look later

So trying something else tonight - want 5.1 sound with my PC so working on something in the sound forum on OCUK

Tried my PC hooked up to my LG OLED 4k TV - Indiana Jones looked amazing in 4k with recommended settings but DLSS and ray tracing. Was getting 30-40fps in low action areas with some light stuttering in action intense areas so suppose with similar settings and a 5070 TI or 5080, it would be nice and smooth and maybe even increase the settings.

Think I'll go with the AOC at least, then just decide on graphics card
