I'd hold back on getting a 970 for now Passey89. Especially for 4K.

Right guys I currently have
Xeon 1230v3
8GB RAM
Sapphire R9 290
running a acer 4k monitor.
currently playing elite dangerous, H1Z1, LOL, payday 2, war thunder games like that.
Do also play bf4.
I currently get 90fps in elite on High with AA turned off but when in station thats drops to around 30 and the card starts getting really hot 85+.
What card do you reckon will be a decent upgrade?
I know I will need a new gpu really so will be budgeting for a 1,000w PSU first.
So far i'm thinking
R9 295X2 as it seems to be the biggest performance gain.
How would 2 X 970's performe against this?
GTX Titan?
or wait until the next gen ATI are released?
Thanks.
If you are getting 85c on the 290 then adding another will turn your case into an oven. I am using a single BGT980 for 4K and I am happy to compromise on graphics settings until a single card allows me to increase the detail.
What kind of fanspeed is your 290 Tri-X on?was debating a 980, uses less power and produces less heat
That's because for the 970 the memory bandwidth will falls to hell when memory usage hit above 3.5GB:i use 2x 970 in sli and its terrible when gaming at 4k tbh.
Yea. As long as you keep the memory usage below 3.5GB there shouldn't be a problem.well the memory is average around 2.5 - 3gb on shadow of mordar using medium settings so memory is not the problem .

I was playing bad company 2 Vietnam in 4K last night. It was glorious
ready to buy a 295x2 or 2x msi lightnings cards. what would be best for 4k gaming.

You'll need good spacing between the cards with two lightnings in a pc case, at least two slots ideally three. I'd probably go for the 295x2.

Mat, what board will give u 3 slots? to run min of 8x 8x with whatever chips set. 97, 79, 99
