4K Or Ultrawide 1440p Gaming

Yeah, i've owned both the ultra wide and the swift 4k, theyre both great for their own reasons, its down to personal choice, i would try and get a go on both and see which one suits you best. Nobody is gonna be able to tell you what looks best to you.

My reasoning is that I want to see what 4K is like and fact I got a top quality 4K monitor for a good price. This probably won't be my monitor for a massive amount of time will look at 4K 120Hz whenever they come out. But need a monitor for a intermediate time frame instead of keeping my 1080p Dell.
.
How are you getting on with your 4k?
I'm using a 27" LG 4k IPS and I find the sheer pixel density can give me a bit of motion sickness at times, which I wasn't expecting.
(I turned off windows anims which made it more comfy for general use)
Nice screen to use though.
I haven't found text scaling to be a problem.

Not sure why some people are so bothered about your choice of monitor - well worth trying at that price
You never know what these things are like until you live with them.

Personally, coming from a £1,000 graphics high res, high refresh CRT monitor I find all these IPS screens look unnatural but I'm trying to get used to them.

I haven't got yet it should be coming Monday or Tuesday. Glad that someone understands where I am coming from though.

Movies are for the big screen so the 21:9 aspect ratio is not a plus for that in a monitor but actually a minus as most if not all other content will have bars on the sides at they are 16:9 which might be annoying.

The vast majority of my blurays are 2.39:1, so they fit better on a 21:9 screen than anything else. Id say 21:9 is actually a plus for movie watching. It just doesnt work so well when the movies are 16:9.

I think you should read what I said again ;)

Sorry but i assumed you meant something more logical than '21:9 isnt good for movies because movies are for the *'big screen' because other content isnt 21:9. That doesnt even make sense. And what do you mean by big screen? tv? cinema? what difference does that make anyway?

when i watch movies, most recent releases fit my 21:9 screen almost if not perfectly . This is not a 'minus' just because other content doesnt.

Easy there tiger :p

Just saying that one should consider if they watch their movies primarily on their monitor's or their TVs. I would hazard a guess most will watch it on their big TV on a comfy sofa vs a small monitor. Therefore when making a consideration if you happen to think you will not be using a monitor much or at all for watching movies, it would be a minus due to having to put up with bars on the side when watching youtube for example on the monitor :)

I have totally stopped watching movies on my Pioneer plasma over my 34" superwide Dell for a couple of reasons

1) annoying neighbours always complaining about the volume, even during "sociable" hours - and thats at less than 20% volume on my amp (not particlarly high at all)

2) strangely enough any bars I do come across on BR rips Completely disappear at night, and so I dont see the edge of the screen or top/bottom , just the edge or bottom of the image (unfortunately not true any more with my plasma)

(obviously I also sit a lot closer to a monitor, so the image appears bigger also - a 34" monitor from 2-3 feet appears much larger than a 50" plasma from 8ft away

Shame about the neighbours :(

Yeah, it is a different situation for everyone. But well worth considering when making a purchase I thought which is why I brought it up. It is easy to see 21:9 being a big plus for movies without overlooking the fact that movies may hardly be ever watched on the monitor. But obviously some will make use of this. In my case I watch movies with my partner on our 50" plasma in comfortable seating, can't image us or many others gathering around a 34" ultra wide monitor in a office or man cave to watch a movie :p

Not many people realise this but you can overclock your monitor!

My Dell u2515H has a native resolution of 60hz but happily runs at 80hz 1440p. Now that may not excite the hardcore amongst you but I see no reason why you can't get a 4K 60hz and get some extra fps for free:D

because most of the time the monitor will skip frames and actually make it less smooth. and im not sure you can oc 4k as the cable cant take more data.

Gotcha, didn't consider the cable. I've heard of frame skipping but only ever experienced a 'perceived' improvement in smoothness on my own monitor.

Interesting. 80hz would be lovely. What revision is the U2515H?
