4K streaming plex to Samsung KU6000

PCM is the decoded signal, so in this case your PC is doing the decoding and your amp just has to send it through to the amplifier section.

The problem I have with PCM is that you don't know for sure what audio you're getting, as the amp won't light up with 'DTS', 'DTS-HD', etc.

In theory it makes no difference to audio quality though.

I've sent a 4K video with DTS-HD and HDR to my B6 running XPlay. Once I started playing the video the TV switched to HDR mode and from looking on the server it was a direct play with no transcoding. The amp shows DTS but I don't know if it is DTS or DTS-HD, either way it sounds very good so I am happy. If anyone knows how to tell for sure, I will give it a go.

Sounds good. Is the B6 a TV I'm guessing?

So I get DTS but not DTS HD via ARC and Optical?

That's pretty much my only option, as I have no way to stream Plex 4K straight to the amp so I get the best audio possible. Should be good enough though

What amp? Every amp I've come across that supports DTS-HD etc. lights it up when it detects the signal, i.e. it will show the specific format and will differentiate between DTS and DTS-HD.

Another way to check is to play a file that you know has a DTS-HD audio track (any old sample file will do) using MPC-HC (ensure bit streaming is enabled) and see what your amp displays.

Cheers for all the help guys
Now I have another annoying problem
Plex says the audio type is DTS 5.1, however the TV won't highlight the option for DTS on the TV settings, only Dolby digital, pcm and DTS neo 2.5. Proper DTS his grayed out as an option

Am I right in thinking this is a Plex issue where the TV won't support DTS?

If you play the file on your TV then there is no way for the TV to pass a DTS-HD signal to your amp, I'm not sure if the TV will even support DTS-HD, if it did then ARC doesn't support it and I don't think optical will either.

HDMI 2.2 will support HD audio formats including Atmos via ARC.

Still don't know how you guys have ripped 4k with HDR though, I didn't think it was possible.

Edit - I recently read this on a site where someone asked about 4k rips

Those re-encodes are not the real thing. First, the source used is often upscaled 2K. Second, before they re-encode these movies, they use the HDMI port and a capture card to rip them to an HDD. HDR cannot be captured, while that is probably the biggest advantage of UHD blu-ray. Third, the re-encoding takes skills, because the video needs adjustments (avisynth filters) to get a good result. A solid blu-ray re-encode will give a better balanced result at a much lower bitrate.

Found the problem, thanks for the reply nick

Had to go into Plex settings and then enable DTS, then enable DTS in TV menu. Apparently its a known issue with Samsung not automatically switching to DTS with Plex and supposedly a fix is being worked on
