Morning all am looking to move up from 1080 to 4k and have been looking at some comparisons and I see the main diff between the two is sharpness is that true, also looking for an Acer 28 inch can anyone give me any advice on those models.thanks

Any sort of specific sizing?

My recommendations would be one with g-sync but that's going to set you back more than £500. But it's worth it for sure.

If not then one that fits your sizing. I had an Asus pb287q a while back and was a brilliant monitor for the price.

In comparison, I tried an acer predator g-sync and hated it.

The AOC Agon AG271UG fits your bill:

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £611.09
(includes shipping: £11.10)

I've found very few reviews, but they're all generally positive.

You can get cheaper without GSync, but Gsync will help with sub 60 fps frame rates. Do be aware that you're not going to be running the latest and greatest at 60 Hz, but older games will max out the monitor.

Something else: Acer seem to have a reputation for poor quality control, and Asus one for poor customer service. I haven't heard either complaint about AOC.

You should also be aware that there's a 144 Hz Gsync 4K monitor in the offing, at around £2K.

What's your budget and what GPU are you running? Have you ruled out 21:9 (3440x1440)? It's far, far easier to run (even a 1080Ti won't be maxing out every AAA game in 4K, especially going forwards), and the noticeable improvement from ultrawide to 4K is not as noticeable as it will be from 1080p to ultrawide. Yes 4K is sharper, but you're giving up a A LOT of frames. 21:9 provides greater immersion and higher frame rates, not to mention higher refresh (up to 100Hz G-Sync with the X34 and PG348Q) as every 4K monitor is currently limited to 60Hz. Depending on your budget, you could even hold out for THIS. If you have not sat in front of a 21:9 screen I would highly encourage you to do so... most people who do soon realise its benefits, so don't rule it out before doing so.

At £500 you are more limited, but check out the 21:9 AOC Agon AG352UCG which is just over £700 if you can stretch to it. This beats any 4K monitor, of which most cheaper ones have TN panels that are far from ideal. Be aware what you're getting in to with 4K... there are significant trade offs in performance in exchange for that extra sharpness, even with 1080Ti, and I wouldn't even consider it with any less of a GPU. Also, as mentioned, G-Sync with 4K is an absolute must.

Here is the AOC... http://aoc-europe.com/en/products/ag352ucg definitely worth a look. This would be my choice any day over 4K, unless the ONLY thing you value is sharpness.

OCUK don't seem to sell this model, but it is available elsewhere.

If you are DEAD SET on 4K, the Acer XB281HK isn't a bad shout, but as I say, wouldn't be my choice. You just need to ask yourself WHY you want 4K...

I was gaming at 4K on a 780 Ti. A GTX 1070 is more than enough for 4K unless you demand ultra quality all the time.

I've no idea what games you're playing, but with the likes of GTA V, Hitman, Ashes of the Singularity, Witcher 3, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Mass Effect Andromeda (and many other big titles), benchmarks clearly show even a 1080Ti barely manages an average of 60 FPS in most instances... and that isn't maxed out to ultra. A 1070 is obviously getting way less than that. If you have G-Sync, this certainly helps, but you're RIGHT at the limit of what's playable, and going forwards a 1070 certainly isn't going to cut it.

Besides, this doesn't change the fact that at 21:9 1440p you're getting WAY better frame rates, faster refresh, better immersion and a image quality that still looks damn good... even better if you have an IPS/VA panel vs a TN one.

thanks for all the replies I spent yesterday looking at the ultra wide screen monitors and have to say they are very immpressive, you could get lost in those screens
