4k2k Display with NVIDIA® G-SYNC - Acer XB280HK

Not really!

It smooths out big differentials and stops tearing.

So lets say in a game you have a maximum of 60fps and a minimum of 25fps then it works superbly well!

Of course having zero tearing is great as well! :)

At last we agree but I think many are getting sold on the fact it will make constant low FPS look better. :)

Why is this TN as its only 60HZ, assume its to do with Gsync as it could be a IPS 5ms panel @ 4k.

Because there isnt a panel available that hits the pricepoint, the closest would be the dell 24" and even that is around £800, so a 28" IPS would be around £1400 and probably still not particularly great for gaming

This 4K TN panel rivals IPS easily

That is exactly what i'm refering to; when the monitor duplicates a frame, at a refresh of 60hz, the result is effective 30hz, or to talk in terms of frametimes 60hz/fps is 16.6ms, if you are running at 57fps on the gpu then that is an average 17.5ms, but what will most likely be happening is some frames hit below 16.6 and get displayed and others hit after 16.6 causing 33.2ms, which with it happening multiple times per second you pick up as a stutter, it is the constant changing from 16.6ms to 33.2ms that causes the problem... Where as if you have a stream of images being displayed at 16 then 17 then 18 then back to 16ms and so on, you dont notice the difference

Now that ive seen gsync first hand, my next monitor purchase will definitely have it, in fact I will even be trading in my 2-3 month old Samsung 4k to get this acer 4k

As long you have enough GPU grunt then that's not really going to be an issue with vsync on. Assuming that the optimal gsync range of 30-60 FPS then gsync would only offer lower latency in this situation.

Just curious if there is a IPS Gync yet, I fell behind last few weeks on all monitor threads as CBA TBH lol.

vsync synchronises the GPU and the monitor but only at the monitors max refresh or half, then half again, so you either accept massive input lag by rendering lots of frames ahead, or you minimise lag and then you get stutter and with dips to below about 50fps then you still get the stutter as the GPU still can't render enough frames to prevent the chopping to 30fps that vsync requires when it can't sustain 60fps

personally I find both unacceptable

with how poorly optimised a lot of games are at 4K, you need something like gsync to combat that, even with 3 Titans

nope, that is TN, it is the same panel as this monitor (and all the other 28 inch 4K's)

The PB279Q is an upcoming monitor using an AHVA (IPS-type) panel. It's due out later this year, probably well into Q4.

Hi there

Can you tell me where you have seen the price £499.99 Inc. VAT or where Acer mentioned this?

Gibbo I first got wind of the monitor from a mailer sent to me by one of your main competitors which had the estimated RRP of £499 inc VAT stated in it.

If you want me to forward on to you, can do just trust me or let me know where you want it forwarded to.

Yeah I've seen that too, Acer should come back to me next week, but seems they probably meant £499 excluding taxes.

Hi there

OK had the call, they want to work very closely with us including other gaming models in their line up. :)

The price will come down slightly and more details on that over next day or so, as such please do not pre-order yet. :)
First small batch is due beginning August and then much larger waves of stock end of August.

Likely to be much price difference between the first batch and second? I can't imagine there would be. Put me down for one of the first batch :)

Edit: it have a vesa mount? Can't see it in the description.

Yes Acer will have a special price for first amount sold, the price will then permantly go up.

In short we should be able to hit £499 inc for first 50 units sold, the price shall then be £559.99 inc.

This is all yet to be confirmed in writing to me though. :)
