4tb drives?

Anyone any clues as to when they are coming?

I found a couple of old articles which suggest they should already be here...

They won't come until 1TB platters are out. That would be early to mid 2012.

Seagate now have a 4tb external drive on their website (single drive), so the bare drives can't be far behind

The 4TB drive may have 5x800GB platters so could be hot running.

Hitachi have launched one as well - they also reckon they've hit 1TB/platter, although apparently not used in the new drive: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/09/08/hitachi_gst_4tb_g_raid/

That was many years ago.

It would be irrelevant to mention it now.

Well, yes, that was my point. Its irrelevance doesn't prevent it from being brought up ad nauseam however.

If Hitachi have 1TB/platter drives and can also bring out drives with 5 800GB platters why can't they release a 5TB drive?
