Hi,

I need to add an additional hard-disk to my rig, but since i have two IDE sockets and already four device's i am not sure how to proceed. Two hard-disks are on one cable, and the other cable has two CD-drives.

I have a Kudoz 7E/333X motherboard (http://www.qdigrp.com/qdisite/eng/support/manual_e.htm) which has 2 IDE/ATA sockets - i believe in does not have any SATA options, but this is at the limit of my understanding!

Can i connect a (new) DVD drive and the new hard-disk to the same IDE cable?

Help appreciated!

P.S - Off to search the forum history for what £40 HD, and £20 DVD drive is best.....

I believe you need a card that sits in the PCI slot and will give you more IDE channels. Suprisngly OcUK is down for me right now so I cant search a product.

You can buy a card, quite cheaply, that will support 2 IDE drives and 2 SATA drives.
(Then you just have to decide what drives to buy.)

Hey,

Down of me too - OC must be having trouble with their new website.

If i remove one of the CD drives can i connect a HD and the remaining CD to the same IDE/ATA cable?

2 devices per IDE cable, it doesnt support more then that.

An ide port is capable of running 2 IDE devices.

Anything more requires an expansion card, wether that be IDE or SATA. This was explained above, but i'm saying it again, lol........

Personally i'd buy a bigger drive rather then add more smaller ones if thats what you are doing, 250gb is £40 - £50 these days.

Would someone mind looking at the manual link to tell me if i have a SATA connection - I don't know what they look like!

Are SATA opticals expensive?

Cheers

Hey,

Cheers for looking!

The PCI/ATA converters seem pretty expensive - >£20. Wonder if a USB2 external HD might be a better solution.

Or, can i have a HD and CD on the same IDE cable?
