5 HD-DVD with Xbox HD-DVD drive

Haha no problem. I have never been sure if they count the freebies but if you say Sony do for Casino Royales then they probably do. Which is just wrong.

I'm liking these 5 free discs offer. But I'm waiting out for an affordable standalone HD DVD player. If they made the 360 HD DVD drive in black I might of gotten that but they don't.

I'm also waiting for them to shrink in size. My sister has a crappy £20 dvd player and its just bigger than a dvd case. Why they have to be so massive is beyond me. Wait a year and then I bet they are better and smaller... oh and cheaper.

Also... I think I'm waiting out to see what format gets the better/cheaper discs. I owned a Mini Disc player and that was pretty good for homemade discs. Yeah it broke, gave errors, battery life suddenly dropped, all of 4 times. But it was OK.

Btw yes you can with the 360 HD DVD drive to poster above.

Nice, so for less than 300£ I can use both formats! :).
I just can't believe format wars, they are nothing but a nuissance to the customer, hopefully this christmas season will finally let us see which format the consumer wants the most.

The answer to that is:

Neither

HD-DVD/Blu-Ray sales are accounting for a miniscule percentage of new film sales.

Joe Consumer doesn't care about HD in either format, and that won't change for quite a while.

Where i work, most people think that when they get their free blu-rays with a ps3, theyre just fancily packaged dvds. In fact theyre always like 'Oooow thats alright, two dvds with it too...'

Most people really don't have a clue when it comes to HD.

IF there was no war (competition) the market would be stale and wouldn't last long. I don't see them as a nuissance, I personally love it when companies battle it out.

If the films were better, i'd be half tempted to buy another HD-DVD drive.

I hope they're quicker sending them out than the 120GB > 20GB transfer cables, or you'll be lucky to get them this side of Christmas.

Cmon?

Serenity
Children of Men
Black Rain
The Prestige
Full Metal Jacket

It's interesting how some people are claiming HD-DVD or BR have won the 'war'..

I agree with the comments already made that sales for both are so small in comparison to DVD that it's clear both are just starting out..

Things should hot up shortly, I notice the Sony BDPS300 is now £299 (possibly +vat) and the Tosh standalones are around £150 now.. as prices of the players come down and sales of films get to any appreciable level, then we can start to make more valid claims of which is likely to suceed long term..

Personally, I prefer HD-DVD simply since it has less 'restrictions' in manufacture and in region then BR, I like the combo DVD/HD-DVD disks, a great idea that I wish we saw more of..

Considering all the exclusives of films, I am aiming to get both standalones, so I can enjoy all that is on offer, and not pedantically limit myself by 'taking sides'..

god damn it :(

pre-ordered one before they were released from a popular high street game shop's webby. they then tried to take the money from my account a week before it was released and because I wasnt getting paid till the next dy or so, my order was cancelled and given away to someone else. I then went and bought one off egay....minus a recipt :(

They may be shoddy films but i'm all up for gettin free stuff :D

EDIT: nevermind, i just read that its only valid for people who bought one after 10th Jan 07.....god damn it again! :(

Is that for definate, only had a quick look. Wasnt sure whether the date was in the yank format or ours.

Just bought my HD drive today, can't wait to try it out!:D
Just a question, is the xbox hd drive region free or is there region restrictions on the format?

HD-DVD is region free.

Right, i have a question :-

You connect the HD-DVD addon to the 360 via USB? Then it uses whatever connection you already have to HD display? So are the only connections which will show 1080p VGA and HDMI?

From what I have read, yes. Even if your TV supports Component 1080p, you can only go to up 1080i. (I think it is to do with some sort of analogue/digital decryption flag that is mandatory on BD/HD-DVD).

Can anyone clarify which part of the bar code you need to send them? On the sticky label on the outside of the box there appears to be 3 different types of barcode?!

Slightly Off topic, but who is calling the battle over with HD-DVD as the winner when like-for-like Blu Ray disks (not players) are outselling HD-DVD at least 2:1?

On Topic: I would buy this bundle if I could have Heroes on HD-DVD as the freebie :D

So few of both are being sold that it matters little. Something like Warner Bros. going exclusive for one of them would be big news, though, which is rumoured to be happening soonish.

right then, i've got a ps3 and a few blu rays but i've decided to hedge my bets and get a hd-dvd player as well. don't really need bells and whistles so is the xbox 360 add on a good option? i assume it's the cheapest option? my 360 is currently under my main telly anyway so it would work out fine for me, i think no real need for standalone unless there is a quality difference?
